Newsgroup/Usenet guide?

Heys!

I'm looking for a basic usenet/newsgroup guide that explains what you have to do - pay for usenet server provider, download nzb's from search site, manage downloads in a newsreader.... I've got a friend who is just starting out and although I can give him advice on what programs/providers to use it would be good to get something that would explain it all to him!

Usually most Usenet provider reviews are biased to the authors prefference but the tables are far from it.
