I see my version is banned somewhere and I turned on automatic updates and even tried manually going to help->Check for updates. Nothing happens at all. Not instantly or upon the several restarts I tried.

Has anyone tried just downloading it trough web browser and installing it over the old version? It's just I have a lot of torrents loaded into it and would prefer not to have to add them all again.

I had the same problem. The answer is yes you can download the new version and install it over the old one without loosing anything

@ OP - as mentioned it wont remove your settings/torrents if you download and install over your current installation.
