How Do I Burn A Movie To Play On Home Dvd?

ok I know this prob. isn't the right place but ...
i have not yet done this if i just copy movies to a dvd will they play on the t.v.?
or do i need to do something else?
also is there a way to get an x-box to play burned dvd's?
I understand if this gets moved... i just wanted you people to answer this...

What kind of files...
Image files - Just use Nero or Alcohol 120%
Avi Files - Convert with TMPGenc

after awhile look into kvcd it will save cdr's same quailty(needs to be a dvd rip)can use cames but quailty sucks depoenending on the quailty get the best

Yes, just some must be converted first...
They need to be in a standard mpeg format first...

I suggest that if you want stuff for your DVD player, get image files, bin/cue and so forth, all the work has already been done for you. Use Nero or Alcohol 120% and play.

:ph34r: Well, there are some different files you can download. First you can download Mpeg-files. These are vcd (mpeg-1) or svcd (mpeg-2) These you can burn directly onto a cd with Nero or some other burning program and play them on your Dvd-player. Most Dvd-players nowadays can read vcd/svcd.

Then there are Image files .Iso, Bin/cue. These you can burn also directly to cd with Nero and play in your dvd-player. You first might load them up in a virtual dvd-drive to check what's in the Image file.

Last, there are the .avi files. You have to make sure that you have all the required codecs installed to play them. The .avi files can't be played on your dvd-player. Well, there are actually some Dvd-players that can read avi files, but I guess you don't own one of these, because if you did you would now about it and probably would have mentioned it. These .avi files you have to convert to either vcd or svcd. This can be done by numerous programs, like TmpgEnc, that was mentioned before. I always use Dvd2svcd and the Cinema Craft Encoder for encoding dvd's and .Avi files. I found that it gives better quality encodings than TmpgEnc does. But that's my own humble opinion.

Finally I would suggest you'd to go to Doom9 (http://www.doom9.org) and Dvd-r help (http://www.dvdrhelp.com) and have a look around. These sites are filled with usefull information, guides, tools and other nice stuff to help you on your quest.
