Installing Windows 98 Question

hello all,
ill get straight to it..my buddy wiped his hard drive clean...i downloaded win 98 for him. how do i burn it to disk so he can install it on his pc? i need step by step instructions on this as i dont know what or how to do it right. if someone can help me out that would be great and my buddy would be very thankfull. someone gave him a pc not the best but will work for what he wants to do. he wiped the h/d clean, planning on re installin win 98 and startin over clean.
PLEASE if ya can help PUT THE DIRECTION IN 'NEWBIE" TERMS so he can get windows in and workin properly

Is it an ISO? If its not it may not work. Cuz you need a autorun file in it.

If there is absolutly nothing on his computer, you might have some trouble there, Windows wont be able to boot if nothings there.

o i forgot the pc he was giving already had win 98 on it if that helps any.

"iso" dunno what that is....... if it wont work what can he do to get the pc up and running then??? any help is needed to get the pc running again

ISO is a type of file extision, what type of file it is.

i downloaded win 98 in a zip file and unzipped it to a new folder in "my documents" and there it sits ready to burn ....hopefully lol

Do you have nero burning software? or whats burning software do you have?

And what is the file extension of that unzipped file?

When you unzip it does have a autorun file there. It will say autorun.ini

i have nero ....not the newest one but i think something like nero 5 and when i unzipped win 98 it has like 600 files in the folder now ...how do i check to see what kind file it is??? sorry but im not to up on this kinda thing sorry

If you unzip it into the folder there should be a file in that folder thats called autorun if there is then it will work. If not then you'll need to find another source. Also is there alot of ZIP file inside it after you unzip the it.

i looked at all the files and i saw a few setup files but no autorun file..its mostly cabinet files a few bin files and a few application files but thats it should i look for another win 98 to download?? and how do i make sure it would be a workin win 98? thanks for the help guys!!!

Then you should stop! get a better copy of win 98, An ISO. Go to bootdisk.com and get a windows 98 se boot/startup floppy so you can fdisk and format the drive. MS has a tutorial site that will explain this.
Basically, puit the floppy in and boot. let it load and choose "CD support". at the A:\ prompt, type FDISK and "yes" to everything. Then reboot, same process up to the A:\ and type FORMAT C: /s
when format is done, again at A:\ type SETUP.EXE or just setup and follow instructions. Make sure you have the correct CD key.

i went to bootdisk.com and downloaded the win 98 se file and put it on a floppy now what lol just get another copy of win 98 to download?

That's what I would do. emule has a good selection and they'll be corruption free.

Just burn the ISO as an image with nero

You have to put it in your friend comp and have the installision of 98 in the cd-rom.

I have a link to win98, but i dont know if its an ISO and you have to go thogh a prosess to optain a password to open the archive. I cant find another version. I look and see if there some verifieds.

You don't need to search. Just copy one of balamm's links, paste it in the "ED2K Link" field in the search window, and click "Start".

The file will be automatically added to your "Transfer" window and start downloading. :D

Bittorrent has an iso do you want to try that.

i installed bittornetoff that link ya put up but when i start it up it says to choose a torrent file to use? whats that about and what shouled i do?

Bittorrent is differant then kazaa. You have to go to http://suprnova.org/ and pick the file you want. It use files (.tor) that is on that webpage. Just click apps and scroll all the way down to windows, then click windows98 ISO. It pretty big tho.
