I know there is already a seedplace thread, but I need to ask about a specific plan. I am thinking of getting the following plan

Shared Start 1

Shared Between - 2 users

Processor - Intel Celeron D/215/220 1.2GHz+
Memory RAM - 1GB
Hard disk - 250 GB (125 each user)
Connection - 100Mbps
Traffic - Unlimited(not always guaranteed SLA standard network)
IP - 1

Pre-Installed :
NX client
sFTP
Wine
http://www.seedplace.org.uk/cart.php?gid=10

Has anyone else tried this plan? How are the speeds? I will be using the seedbox mainly for seeding on easy-to-seed trackers like TL, RevTT, IPT, etc. because I have a crappy home connection.

If you have some info, please do share.

You could (emphasize "could") run into trouble because you're basically using 1GB which does not include a reservation for the OS and just a Celeron. In simple terms; re-checking files and caching might post a huge load/bottleneck. And, of course, you're sharing your IP with someone else which could lead to banning of accounts on certain trackers in the event both users on this seedbox are member there.

I have used shared boxes many times before and none of my accounts have been banned. Multiple accounts from one IP are not banned because of seeding from the same IP. They are banned if you browse multiple accounts from the same IP.

Yeah that also happens with a pentium 4 having 3 users checking simultaneously.
What i want to say is that day has 24 hours. You have to be that unlucky to login the same time as the other person to see that it is actually lagging. And hashing will not take that much time to cut your speed in torrents. Also you are in a shared dedicated box. You probably are aware of that problems. You can ask my clients if you want. Indeed one client wanted 1 gbps server and i sent him to another host which has real 1000/1000 and not 100/100 and 1000/1000 only local like ovh has. I prefer to get less trouble than more customers. Not only cause satisfied customers will bring you more but because some may ruin your day by crying all the time for something they knew when they signed up. I'm not hiding informations. Of course it will lag your system but this won't happen every time.

And that doesn't concerns only me but all resellers.

And about the ip thing, well, the same thing will happen if you are into a shared seedbox account.

Finally after thinking a lot, I went ahead and ordered one. Seems like a great discount for the price. Will keep you people updated on my experience with it.

For those who have this plan and for those who are getting, do you get root access and what are your speeds?

Thanks

I received my box few hours ago. The speeds have been great till now, consistently above 5 MB/s, bursting upto 7.5 MB/s. But I have also had my share of problems. For e.g. whenever I download a couple of new torrents, the speed goes down. I understand that while downloading, the disk can be overloaded but even after downloading completes and it starts seeding, the speed doesn't come back. My speeds struggled at 500 - 700 KB/s for an hour and a half. After that I restarted the server and restarted utorrent and whoa, the speed was back to 6 MB/s. Any ideas what could be causing this? It happens every time I download new torrents. I have to restart to get back my speeds.

It must be because your on a shared box. The other user must have allocated your speed after the downloads were complete causing you to loose speed on your end. Sounds like an unbalanced load on that box. I'd let support know about it.

Seems like the issue has been resolved for now. The speeds are quite consistent now. Already transferred 280 GB in 20 hours. I love the box. :P

You could get this speeds because surely now in this server are only you.

The orders are that much that no one can be left alone for more than 12 hours :)
So that's for sure that he is not the only one on that server.

yep i am not the only one on my server. Besides I am getting average of 6 MB/s with bursting upto 9-10 MB/s. 12.5 / 2 is almost equal to 6 so I am getting the speeds which I should expect.

Besides my username is user2.

hello guys, me and my friend need a server where we can use it both at the same time with the unlimited torrents active, we look at this so what do you think?

Start 2

Processor -Processor - Athlon LE 1660 2.80+ GHz
Memory RAM - 2GB
Hard disk - 250 GB
Connection - 100Mbps
Traffic Unlimited(not always guaranteed SLA standard network)
IP 1

+ Additional IP Slot -> is this mean that we have two ip, everyone have his?

please, if you use this, speed and all, is this good?

thank you very much...

I'm going on my 2nd month with a Shared Start 2 and I highly recommend it. I average around 5mb with highs up to 11mb (expected for shared box). Yes, like redmonster I've had the box hang a few times, but a reboot quickly fixes the problem. Plus, you have to expect delays caused by: hash checks, torrent DLs, creating torrents, and ftp transfers from the 2nd user. That's why I think the 7 euros extra for a Start 2 (twice the ram + processor speed) is well worth the money.

Plus, Seedplace answered all of my tickets within 24 hours (sometimes in only a few hours).

This is a great start for those that aren't ready to pay for a 100% dedi box.

I'm currently using it. The server is pretty slow in terms of hardware but that's pretty normal.

one question,
the site says: 125Gb each user, but there are "only" 100Gb available(in other words, the hd has 100Gb and not 125Gb).

Is it correct ?

redMonster

Yeah the same happened with me. I got only 107 GB. But they explained that it was due to automatic partitioning and they won't let it happen in future. Not sure when you bought it.

I was wondering about that too... I know my home computer has a 250gb hd that formats out to 232gb in NTFS. I assumed it was something similar + space needed for the OS.

Still, he should have some type of disclaimer on the order page like "125gb (107gb useable)"

Well you were right about that so i changed it TO 100+ Per User.

Hi!

I am planning to buy a Dedicated server, I am currently thinking about this one:

*N* PRO SP-09 Mini (1 Available)

Processor -Intel Core2Duo 2x 2.33+ GHz
Memory RAM - 2 GB DDR2
Hard disk - 2x 500 GB SATA2 - RAID 0/1
Connection - 100Mbps*
Traffic Unlimited
IP 1

*Traffic is unlimited. If you exceed 5 TB / month, the connection will be limited to 10 Mbps. 100 Mbps will be restored with the purchase of additional traffic TB. 14.90€ per additional TB / month
€68.00 EUR Monthly

I have a few questions, :ermm:
1.
I want to install Ubuntu server on it and do all the configuring myself, how will I get access to the server (since I am not the one installing the OS & User(s) ...

2. If I own this dedicated server, am I allowed to run on it whatever I want (say I want to do web hosting, and torrent-ing) ?

3. Is it possible to buy extra IP's and how do I configure them (trough virtual interfaces like eth0:1 ) ?

4. I noticed that in the ad to card link I can't choose how I want the RAID, how will I do this?

5. (probably a stupid question) Say I have had this box for 3.5 weeks, I suppose that paying for the next month upfront is no problem so that my server will stay online ?

Thanks!
