Just sampled some Fats Waller ("Honeysuckle Rose", "How Can You Face Me", etc) and I must say I'm impressed.

Looks like I'm in the Jazz hemisphere to stay.

Of the jazz-o-philes here, who likes what and why?

well, i'm into jazz since a while but to be honest, i don't really know where to start.
here are some various well-known artists that come to my mind, just pm me if you want more artists.

- John Coltrane (a god - what can i say more)
http://open.spotify.com/track/6oVY50pmdXqLNVeK8bzomn

I love the music of Michel Camillo, especially the album Spain with Tomatito.
It's awesome sitting outside in the sun, a good beer or a glass wine (bottle will do fine too) and the the summer jazz sound of the flamengo...

Coltrane, Chet Baker, Toots Thielemans, Bobby Mcferrin are on my favorite list too.
Zijlsta is a Dutch band wich is great too http://www.zijlstraweb.com/audio/denoever-clips/track04.htmlhttp://www.zijlstraweb.com/audio/steljevoor-clips/index.html

Giovanca, Wouter Hamel are nice new talents showing Jazz is still alive

Great thread :) I've been getting into some miles, coltrane, waller etc, but looking some more "underground" stuff to have a rip through.

agreed. Jimmy Smith is an incredible organist (i have several albums of him) and Martial Solal is one, if not the only, french who managed to be accepted and play regularly with american legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Kenny Clarke, Didier Lockwood etc...

My next choice is Herbie Hancock one of the most influential musicians of the century
Chameleon one of my favorites. Especially the original Head Hunters version is what i call funky in Jazz

Tough one, probably John Coltrane or any project of Duke Ellington. If you welcome acidjazz here then James Taylor Quartet and Gota Yashiki come close.

No way senegal from all versions of the song you picked the less inspired one.
Yves Mondand's or Edith Piaf's version are fantastic and if you are looking for an instrumental jazz one then Miles is your choice. Even Cold Cut's mix from Eternal Sunshine is a really emotional track

Autumn Leaves must be the most played standard jazz song with Summertime, there are so many versions..
