If you are truly a noob here or not...I would recommend IPT for starters. Easy enough to get in and pretty good content. Might even consider Bitsoup...Get away from public trackers like TPB, imo...

Didn't realize bitnation was gone...

And if you can't get away from public sites there are better ones than TPB, like h33t and mininova. Not public but might as well be (like demonoid) is arenabg...

Also search the forum, check the open signups thread.
Read a little about a site before signing up.

IPT is great for anyone. Torrenters that have been doing this for years or someone that is just starting out. There's a ton of content and it's extremely easy to seed.

Another excellent site, that is even open signup right now, is Pretome. There's over 26,000 torrents, and it's no ratio. But the no ratio doesn't mean there's slow speeds. There's a ton of activity on that site.

Bittorrents.ro and ilovetorrents.com are both good general trackers and registrations are open. Try them out. bitsoup too is great, and registrations are open periodically. Bitnation closed down due to an internal conflict and some of the owners left to create bakedbits.org (need a confirmation on this)...

Not really. The original Torrentbits (R.I.P.), the "father" of all private trackers, was the best torrent site ever. I, like many others, moved to Torrentbytes and other trackers after it went down. A few years ago, TB had a database crash, and the userstats were lost. I didn't bother to go back ever since.

It's very good for scene releases, and all the packs are freeleech. I'm pretty sure it's still open reg, although the process for the registration used to be quite messy.

Demonoid and TPB are the best ones for that rare stuff that you can't find on private sites, but it seems TPB is dawn for everyone at this mo, and it has been like that for hours, hmmm

Anyways, to tell what the best site is can be pointless, since that depends on what kinda stuff you are looking for.
Besides the public sites such as Demonoid and TPB, and the engines (Mininova, isohunt, etc), that have a huge selecion of torrents (new and old stuff), I like those sites that are specialized in a specific type of torrents (music -some ones in a certain type of music-, movies at DVD, rare movies at compressed formats, horror movies, games, whatever).

My prediction for the only trackers that will be mentioned in the next few pages of this thread:

-Bitsoup
-IPTorrents
-TL
-RevTT

Then some guy is gonna say, "dude try demonoid it rulz" even though OP already mentioned D as one he frequents.

http://i39.tinypic.com/2woj9tw.jpg

Lastly, this thread will eventually erupt into a flamewar about why torrents are better than usenet and then why certain sites are overrated.

seriously do that, dont ever bother trying to get into high trackers, they suck like hell, you will just waste your time chasing after them, get a seedbox, get a sct n tl invite, buffer them enough, then use them for your needs, you dont need anything except you need special console games, or special lossless music, trance music et cetera. You can also use ipt if you are not looking for rare stuff. IPT would be more than enough for an average user in fact.

That's certainly interesting, if not kinda lame. Do they want to be called a 'high level' tracker by the unwashed masses on FST? IPT used to be open for signups all the time a couple years back. Then they did away with that and went invite only. And now there's a rumor they're closing down even more, huh.

I can't say that I don't understand them. If you're a big tracker and you're also easy to get into, then all kinds of people get in. Even ''the law''.

A good torrent site? RevoTT is underrated imo.

Yeah, that's certainly true. I suppose for many trackers putting up more borders is something that's inevitable. The thing is that I honestly didn't think IPT would do that since they've always been very 'open' and easy to get into. Doesn't bother me either way, I'll use the site as long as content keeps flowing in.

RevTT is definitely underrated. It's a very solid general tracker.
By the way, it seems like they're getting even stricter with bans. So if anyone wants to get into RevTT, try getting an invite from someone you know a bit.

Thank you for the fix.
Actually i dont think i will ever understand why people gives credit to higher lvl trackers, i have an idea though, i think they have been indoctrinated into thinking that they have the uber super duber sites. Yet in fact, those are the sites that you cant even find GTA 4 yeah 4 You can obviously make requests, it will probably be realized, why shall i actually have to go through that if other underrated sites already have them with around 56 or more seeders. I get top speed from low lvls as opposed to higher ones. Anyone i dont give a shit about what lvl trackers are, it is a big fat ugly lie that people live, nothing more. At least for me.

No.
They don't have exclusive packs like on TL, TorrentBytes, FtN, etc,
IPT is not a site specialized in scene releases.

My advice: if quality is important for you, try TorrentBytes. Only scene releases, and it's strill free reg. But that won't last forever, I guess. Still remember that Scc was free reg in the past, and it used to be so good as it is now, and now to join the site is almost impossible.

If you want one now just send an email to the email address I have in my profile. So I know it's you, put 5 numbers in the subject title. Then put those numbers somewhere in your profile here.

I checked it out and it seems now they open reg when some acounts are pruned, only.
It was not like that in the past -when I joint-, some of my friends were creating accounts some days/weeks later and reg was always open.
I guess the amount of members increased a lot and they had to close the registration and open it from time to time, maybe several times a day, like on bitsoup.
But it's worth to give a try, Imo.

About IPT:

IPT is releasing all Scene Movie/TV releases in MP4 format, it means you can watch all scene Movie/Tv Releases on your [iPod/PSP/iPhone], these releases are not in any tracker like TL/RevTT/ScT/SCC etc...

Each Category of IPT have enough releases including Games/Movies/Ebook/Appz/XBOX/, releases for Kids and many more.

Whatever is at TL/SCC/RevTT/ScT, you can find them at IPT. 1 in 10 ;)

that's the specialty of IPT, that's why i recommended you.

Of course, everyone is not thinking like me but everyone have his own opinion. in my point of view, IPT is best for me and no need other trackers when i have IPT. it's easy to Keep positive ratio at one tracker then keeping at 10 trackers ;)

Thanks to Stellar who was so kind to invite me there, I can now get an idea of the site myself, and it is indeed a well structured, huge site with a lot of good content. I noticed the iPod stuff, too, which makes it rather unique (none of my other general trackers is 'specialised' on this). And of course all those freeleech packs, which are great.
So far, so good - this one is a keeper for sure.

Still, I wouldn't say that IPT has all the content of the other general trackers you mentioned, each of those trackers has its own strenghts / specialised content.
