You couldn't believe that it went for 25 pages, so you just had to revive it again...

Really why not use both I use newsgroups, torrents, rapidshare and there are some thing that are unique to each type.

I cant see 1 being better than another its all about your preference.

Lets talk in a couple of years when unfortunately the bitorrent communities will cave and eventually disappear under the impossible conditions set by isp's and orgs

I can't believe that this thread is still going on after 25 pages....ridiculous!

Ridiculous indeed. No one had posted here for almost a month. :pinch:

That's what they said 2-3 years ago. I'll come back to you in a couple of years, provided that I'm still here, and this forum still exists, of course.

i've been on usenet probably longer than some of the people on this forum have been alive... it is good and has its uses but also a lot of drawbacks...

first off there is no community ... there are also no comments on the various uploads like you have on torrent sites. for 0-day torrent sites you can see exactly what's new by looking at the first page. on a usenet group who knows if its new it could be a re-post

BUT to me the biggest problem that has evolved with usenet in recent years is the number of viruses and spyware disguised as fake uploads. if i want a small 0-day app there is no fucking way in hell i would download it off usenet. you'd have to be out of your mind. there's an EXTREMELY good chance its been tampered with.

usenet wasn't always like that but unfortunately as more and more people become familiar with it so do the spyware/junk emailers and people looking to get their trojans on your computer

1) There are many usenet communities (forums, irc channels).
2) Many posts have comments, all you have to do is check sites like nzbmatrix. Users there post comments on alot of posts.
3) You could check using pre channnels if you wanted to see if its just beem pre'd or not. Could also check other sites to see if it is new material (e.g if the version of an app was just released and is posted, its gonna be a new post).
4) Remove all .exe files from your search results and you're sorted, if you are smart enough you will know how to tell between fakes and the real thing.

I'd been with usenet for 3 yearrs but I had the same problem as Raban.
For HD contents, I'd been with abHDTV.net but for ebook or applications,I could only found some comments from indexing sites such as nzbmatrix etc.
I'm not familiar with IRC.
Would you please give some links to usenet community which discuss like ebook or applicaitons?

I'm not paying for what I download so I'm not using newsgroups.

sorry to bring up an almost-old thread but i'd like to know what you guys think about Netflix.
it's only 8.99$/month, customer service is fast and reliable... and as far as i know, they have 100.000+ dvd titles.

I haven't tried it, but from what I hear, it's a good service and worth the money. I know a few rippers that use it as a source and they speak highly of it.

Of course everyone can get free usenet (With limited retention) so using a 0day torrent site is cold and pointless IMO.

Premium usenet does cost money, but if you're smart, it won't be much. I used to subscribe to giganews about once every three months. I'd then leech anything i'd missed in the last year in that month.

These days I get by on the free (10 day retention) usenet which is adequate for my 0day needs.
