I'm thinking of pulling together a fairly basic but complete guide to getting going and using the groups proficiently. What I'd like is help from at least 1 more guy with a better windows background than myself. I figure we'll cover how to find stuff, with what software and techniques to find just about anything.. So basically the questions that are pretty standard for the boots up and coming...
PM me if your interested and with a bit of what you think you can contribute.. I think probably starting a google doc as collaborators will work as a nice platform. Or I'll get creative and set up some fun server side stuff.. See how it goes..
I hope to see some screen shots, basic functions, headers, nzb, searches, creating par2 rar archives and some posting..
No time line at this point.. I'm fairly busy but can contribute time on a daily basis and before long it should be fairly complete..
Let me know..

This would be incredibly useful to me as a new Usenet user.

I figured just as much.. I started somewhere too.. But I must say the open source Linux community is spot on when it comes to paying knowledge forward.. I have nothing to gain from doing this other than doing my part to help other people out. I have already put up a couple how-to's here. I hope this one can be a.. "so you want to use newsgroups".. See this site and then go buy an account and you'll be running like the pros in no time at all..

So it starts... What I'm after is condensing all those links which I don't care to looks thought at the moment in to the one stop shop.. Believe me it won't be all that hard to do..
Trim the fat server the meat and potatoes and be done with it.

That's still looking like client specific.. Missing the whole idea of what the servers are about and how to use them regardless of clients.. While touching on clients should be a key point it is not how to use them...

Hardly.
Just my 2 cents. But what a way to turn someone off from contributing to this site and trying to condense all the scattered information regarding usenet from other sites and this site into a single cohesive topic.

o'tay. We never said not, you can just copy/paste all that information into a single thread. Have at it, I would write one, but all the infomation is available in those links I posted...plus there's even some tuts posted in the tuts section already. So then why don't you write one up? It would almost be easier to just have a "usenet" help thread, and people have a question, post it in that thread and let someone answer it. Then from there you can move those Q&A's to the 1st post and start a day by day FAQ.

Maybe in the tutorial you could do a section on using irc for requesting files/pars... I have had a couple of people try to help me with it.. but its all Greek to me so far - guess I must be slow or something.
I don't want to actually use irc to get the files.. just request them is all for uploaders is all..
Edit: & then I see a mini tut in the VERY NEXT THREAD!! *sigh*
Then again.. how about a Video? There are a lot of tut vids on Youtube for almost everything - but just post it here and not on Youtube though..
