pretty boring film. the 1st 40 mins or so is a snooze fest. it does pick up and has sum pretty cool effects (for this movie), but not really enough to warrant anything good. movie in all is pretty serious and is filmed as such. basically this movie is about alien life being stranded on earth and humans mistreating them and, of course, dissecting them to see wtf. tragic all around. 6/10

I would have said the exact opposite ,that District 9 is it's most boring near the end when it opts for the the path of least resistance over any real creativity .

See, I have nothing against the way people talk and shit, but they marketed this movie to English speaking people correct? Well ffs, make so English people can understand what is being said, jesus theose South Africans are so hard to understand, and also without reading it, if I wanted to read I would read a freakin' book. If anything, I thought the movie was dumb/boring/stupid/etc, until the end, ending was decent, and I think everyone knew what would happen near the end, just the way it was set up. If we go by what the last 30 minutes of the movie tell us, then will will see District 10?

I really enjoyed it.

The subtext of discrimination and racial oppression was subtle but effective.
Particularly interesting was the ability of the director (Neill Blomkamp, Peter Jackson produced) to evoke viewer sympathy for the alien father/son team who drive the plot forward to the ending that Idol didn't like.

In all, the quasi-documentary format and shaky camera technique- so often distracting and quease-inducing- seems completely apropos and, combined with excellent CGI, made for a very believable experience.

No doubt, there will be a sequel.

When I saw the trailer during the previews before Bruno, the movie looked like absolute shit. It looked the most stereotypical and bland movie that existed. Many people have been telling me that the movie was far better than the trailer however, so I may have to check it out later with the r5.

Especially the element that the main character (who never acted before)goes from being a naive racist dweeb to a complete selfish bastard, who only helps the prawns for his own needs. (until the final scene, after he fucked it up beyond hope)
South africans are so very capable of showing how racism is engrained in their society.
