you only get 5 to 7 kbs if your on 56K or cable if you don't have your ports open on any routers/firewall
I think your just not configered right, your bottelnecked from one are another, xp has a firewall also.

Can't get it to work on my Radeon 9700. Can't initialise DirectX FFS. Works with the Halo.exe -window extension but looks/plays like shit. Any solutions?

I remember the matrix 2 was with 944 seeds 788 peers got it pretty fast.
the highest I ever got was o a matrix 3 trailer over 1200 seeds it got up to 713kbs @ it was done, I blame more people getting there 5hit configerd correctly
wish it was bigger to this day, I wondered how fast before my modem cought on fire

their considered a seed when they have 100 percent file obvioulsy if u get the whole whole then your connected to a seed wether you see him or not. oh well i got the whole game in 5 hours anyways.

Yes have been playing it and i would say its worth the download,you can definately notice the improvements from the beta,not tried the multiplayer as of yet.

In the NFO file it says to extract and burn the cue but how do I extract it to burn it or mount it on alcohol 120%?

it is a bunch of Halo_Combat_Evolved-FLT_flt-halo.001 through .0048 and a Halo_Combat_Evolved-FLT_flt-halo.sfv file. thanks for any help.

even if there is no seed connected to the tracker at all, it is possible to complete the download. see the part where it says how many distributed copies there are? if it's more than 1.0, that means all of the leechers added up together have at least one complete copy of the file. if they stay connected long enough, they can put their pieces together and create seeds.

you do not have to connect to a seed, to finish the download.

99.99999995% of everthing on the bittorrent is real

are what I preffer, you don't even have to burn, just mount on a virtail drive, & even if you need to burn for a friend/back up ect, there in the format to burn

It took me a little over 6hr's to get, but it's definitely worth it :-)

Much more polished than the beta, and more enjoyable :-)

I've just uploaded a trainer for it on Suprnova.org if anyone's interested in cheating their way through the game (but i'd recommend playing the game without using the trainer first to get a real taste of what the game's like :-) ) :-)

DXDIAG says everything is fine. I think the game is at fault here. I'm running the latest Omega drivers with the 9800 hack. I get 16,600 3DMarks 2001 and 5,570 3DMarks 2003 so it should fly like a bird on my PC.

It just opens the Microsoft DirectX web page. Everything is fully updated on my PC and I definetly don't have any PC related probs though. I was looking forward to this game :( Might have to wait until it's officially released and a patch comes out to play it.

You do have DirectX 9.0b installed don't you McNutter? If not then i'd install it if I were you and try again :-)

You've got better spec's than I Monkeee but it play's pretty smooth for me, try making sure the refresh rate is set to as high as your monitor can handle as that might help, and if not then try reducing the resolution to 800x600 (or lower if that's what your already set at) :-)

well i did succesfully play online for a half hour or so it was a server that didnt recquire cd authentication. but it disappeared soon, so can u join any server or what lord soth? what did you do? would be nice to play some more.

Have you tried loading it in safe mode to see if it will load McNutter? If not then add ...

-safemode

... to the end of the shortcut for the game (it'll look something like "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe -safemode") and see if it load's then and if it does then it's most likely a game setting that's causing the problem.

You might want to go through the readme.rtf file and try out some of the other additional loading command's to see if any of those help :-)

If not, then this could, or could not (which is more than likely given i've not heard of anyone doing it before lol), help...

Try copying the DirectX files directly into the Halo folder so if it's having trouble finding them then it's got a better chance with them right in it's own folder lol

... Hope you manage to get it working :-)

Safemode worked but it was windowed, looked like shit and had no sound. But that gave me an idea to try it in win 98 compatability mode. It works! But performance is piss poor. So Microsofts game has probs with Microsofts operating system - Nice. A lot of people have had the same problem so it aint just me. Thanks for the help lads. Now just need it to work without compatability mode...

Ok, your saying it worked in compatibility mode has given me an idea :-)

Uninstall the game, then copy the setup files to HD (it should install from HD no problem given it's already cracked, if not then just try this directly on the actual file on the CD (or in the image if your installing from CD image file)) and then select the "Setup.exe" file and choose to run that in Windows 98 compatibility mode and install that way, once done it might work without needing to select that option :-)

EDIT : I just had a thought!! It working in safemode with graphics but no sound could indicate that it's a audio driver/card problem and not a graphic's driver/card that's cuasing the problem, try running it normally (not in safemode) but with "-nosound" (minus the "'s) added and see if it work's then, if so then it mean's it is audio problem and not graphic.

I have trouble with almost every PC game (i'm used to the PSX controller lol), hence why I uploaded the trainer onto Suprnova :-)

I tried making one myself using a program I found, but the codes I managed to find would only work at specific section's of the game so I gave up and found the Pizzadox one instead lol :-)

I tried it with -nosound but it still refused to run. Also tried turning off all sound hardware acceleration but it did nout. God dam Micro$haft. It's pretty unplayable even in compatability mode. Plays like it's on a cheap ass card and not a clocked Radeon 9700. Thank fuck I didn't pay for it.

works fine for me on an Athlon XP + Nforce 2 + 512mb + Radeon 9200 Pro 128mb + Catalyst 3.7.

Other people have had the same problem so it isn't unique. Everything is freshly installed & up to date on my PC so the problem is with the game not my rig. If it worked on your cheap ass card then lucky you. Thankfully you two never helped - your advice would be as useful as a chocolate tea pot I'm sure.

what a cop-out. if there were any more differences between our systems besides my graphics card from the same company being one generation older (and apparently my PC being set up properly since it runs everything i throw at it), you'd prolly be insulting those too... OK clearly your not listening so I'll spell it out for you. OTHER PEOPLE WITH ATI AND NVIDIA GRAPHICS CARDS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. Check the alt.binaries.comp newsgroup for examples. If the game doesn't even start then stability doesn't enter in the equation and my PC is totally stable by the way.

I doubt its a problem with just ATI cards, the team worked close with nvidia and ATI to get the game working on pc. Probably a similiar configuration / software problem... Do the following so i can see your full pc stats:

Go to DXDIAG (explanation already showed). Click save all information. Open the file you saved it to, and copy&paste (here) all the stuff up to

doesn't sound like the offical drivers, like a "upgread maybe"

Open the lowest numbered with winrar and you will get a bin and a cue.

Then burn or mount as you wish.

the first torrent had a bad rar, here the correct one
close the old torrent
open the new to the same place, it will pick up whear it left off

the people who distributed the game hacked its serial-checker. you can type anything you want into the serial field, and the single-player mode will work.

you just won't be able to play online because the servers will check for a valid serial number, unless you can find a server that doesn't require serials to play on it.

The problem with Geforce FX cards and Halo is the pixelshader. GFX cards are set to use PS2.0. And as we all know from the HL2 bench, GFX sucks at ps2.0(at least till the new drivers) What you do is go to the properties of the desktop icon and in the target box add -use14 to the end. THis should set Halo to run in PS1.4 which should solve all the probs for the geforce FX's. There is also another way to do this in the actual file, if the command line edit dosnt work. not sure of the details though.

does that change other games as well? and wat bout that nvemulate thing? i used it and it worked for jedi academy and enemy territory. can't i just use that to fix halo? after all, it's called the gforce halo fix. :huh:

no you change the target icon of the game, not your computer
it tells the game how to run

just because you tell this game to start without sound, it doesnt turn off sound on your computer.

you have a radeon 9700, right? what are your CPU speed + amount of system memory?

you should also be using the very latest ATI driver release (Catalyst 3.7, PLUS THE CONTROL PANEL which allows you to adjust the direct3d settings and make sure that you've got the AGP setting cranked up to 4x or 8x)... as well as the very latest Microsoft DirectX version from www.microsoft.com/directx/

if you have anisotropic filtering and antialiasing enabled under directx options, you should try fiddling with those and see if turning them down or disabling them helps. also try switching the in-game graphics options on & off, one at a time, and see if any of those fixes it.

it would help if you could post a screen capture so people can see what the graphics problem is, exactly. "no textures" sounds to me like you're just seeing a lot of plain white or grey polygonal shapes without any details-- which might not be what you really intend to say. so that's where a screen capture would be helpful-- press PRNT SCRN while running the game, then close the game, start a paint program like photoshop or MS-paint, create a "new file," paste, and then save.

i only had problems with the pre-release beta version, and thankfully everything looks right with this one... but hopefully some of these suggestions might be useful.

there seems to be a slight prob with the crack as well. when i first got it, it ran fine, actually more than fine. 1024x768 all maxed out, ran like a charm. After i stopped playing for a bit and came back to it, it froze on the startup screen. After launching the game off the cd, i got an error message telling me to go in safe mode. I didnt. I tried launching off the cd again, and it ran perfect, just like the first time.

Seems as though there may be some iffyness (that even a word?) to the crack. However, im not bitching, its still great. better than most.

i'd rather not put up a screen cap, if that's ok with you...considering the game isn't out and everything...

i'm not only seeing things in black and white, i can see walls and colours, but it doesn't look finished

also, people have no eyes and i cannot see any details on the hologram on the first level...

i've tried turning all the options in graphics on and off, plus changing resolutions, nothing has helped...

erm...i didn't need a crack...it runs perfectly well with a fake serial...just put anything you want in...unless i'm missing something?

Another thing that might be some peoples problem is that the game itself has a fix for the refresh rates, so if you are running another program to do that, it might be causing conflicts with halo. Those getting errors may want to check it out.

i've tried running with vsync on and off, plus at different refresh rates with vsync both on and off...guess i'll just give up with this until i get Half Life 2

Graphics cards aren't the only things which effect FPS ;) RAM and the processor both effect the performance greatly, so he's probably running a different system.

Also, whats with this attraction to 5200's? Theyre garbage! Even for their price!

hehe, it came with my pc, and I cant upgrade my vid card yet. :(

Besides it plays games that I couldn't play before (halo) so I'm happy fer now. When ya consider I used to have a evga geforce2 32MB vid card, this gforce fx 5200 is MUCH better. :D

oh yeah, i'm running a p4 2.8 ghz and 512mb PC-3200 400MHz RAM.

I think it puts reflections on objects, although I'm not real sure. Either way I, personally, don't notice a big change in quality with it off.

if they are the same size, they are most likely the same file. make a backup copy of your incomplete file, then try resuming the download with the new torrent file.

Thats one of a few definitions, it almost sounds like reflections, so if you turn it off, you probably won't get surfaces reflecting off metal armour / bits of wall etc.

download a program called daemon tools
install it, then mount the .cue file on the virtual drive daemon tools creates

mount basically means putting an image on a virtual drive to 'fool' your os into thinking you have the disc
also, the bin would fit onto a cd when you go to burn it, but you don't need to

Ok, I finished d/ling off bittorent, but when I mount the cue and enter the CD key it comes up with a MGS17.exe error

"This application has failed to start because MFC42.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

And then a message from halo setup saying

"cannot load PidGen.dll"

I explored inside the virtual cd and PidGen.dll is there, do i have a dodgy or corrupt version?

Or is there a crack i should know about?

An help would be appreciated quickly please, as i need to know if I have to D/l a diff version

there's no way to avoid it as far as i can see, it pops up as soon as you clikc multiplayer, and you can only install it or quit. I installed it and then replacd the halo launcher with the private server crack again and multiplayer runs againonly about 15 odd servers though, all small and most locked.

Theres something on supranova called Halo MPlauncher. I've just checked it out. It looks like you can create a LAN game and then give ppl your IP which they then put into this app to laucn the game and connect to your game.

That was a nice little game. I'm used to playing HL online so the movement seems very slow to me - like walking around everywhere instead of running. How where the pings and stuff lads?

EDIT: Super easy to set up. Just use the ingame menus. I also have the server patch of course.

I applied the patch then replaced the exe with the server exe and it ran fine. It checked for the update, found it then setup the game.

The talking problem might be down to the patch's we are using.What patches are you 2 using?Public or private?

Funny part is, im going to buy the game now anyway.(mainly because of Multiplayer) but if i hadnt tried it with the downloaded version first, i probably wouldnt have wanted to buy it.

any explanation why my BT client maxes at 4kb to 5kb/sec when i should be getting my max of 27kb/sec on a supposed gd torrent with thousands and seeders and peers??

How long have you had it running? BT doesn't always give you a constant connection speed it depends on how many ppl are trying to get the same chunk as you so speeds to fluctuate greatly.

Alright guys, I need a little help organizing all of this together...I'm almost done downloading HALO, and I wanted to know something...If I'm forced to download this patch, and then I can't play the game...will installing any of the patches from gamecopyworld.com fix this...such as the NO CD patch or the PUBLIC SERVER patch...The most important thing for me is that I am able to play online through a public server (if not I'll go for the private), and if possible through gamespy or something of that sort...Can anyone help me out on this one...Thanks a lot

Yeah it seems that all the update does is install over the public server and cd crack, you just need to reapply them.

Sometimes it takes a while to connect to the tracker giving you timeout errors (especially when the tracker is busy) leave it open and it should start eventually.

I have not had time to try to set up and host yet,sounds straight forward enough though.

Can any bittorrent gurus help me troubleshoot?

I have a Dlink DSL 504 Router/ADSL modem
ADSL 256/64k connection

in 192.168.0.1, as far as i know, under the firewall configuration, there is no ban or allow list.

I dsiabled the windows inbuilt firewall.

I still get the yellow status light after 15mins to half hr. I get lousy speeds of 5kb/sec max and it still keeps dipping to 1 or 0 after a while.

It must. Every peice of shit online game and it's dog has. Must be a bug or something. The only vehicle missing in that game is a submarine. Were you getting much lag? It doesnt play too well on my rig so it might have a knock on effect in your ping. I have to run it in Win 98 compatability mode just to work.

Who the fuck were those other players? Fucking twilight zone here.

The ping didnt seem to be to bad, not laggy at all really.

I was amazed at how many were talking about how they d/led Halo. I wonder how many ppl have actually bought this game? ;)

It might be a good idea for instructions on when and what times best to set up and play online.For me anytime as i work from home.

I will probably end up buying it anyway,but don't quote me on that.

I also think a thread for halo parties woudl be good, that way interested parties could just check that thread to see if an kazaalite servers are gonna be up anytime soon, instead of searching through this thread. I'm no mod, though, so I dunno if they'd frown upon that idea.
