Madonna, I don't believe she is as great as the world makes out. She is just like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, a media image produced by record companys to make money. They force her to do this and do that and be on tv here and there, and make money, expand thier business.

It's true, acts such as Britney Spears are only used to promote a business, like a port follio or like a witty advert slogan (both the same idea). If they have someone who everyone knows, then "tallented" artists may be more willing to join the record company due to knowing someone well known working for them.

Having watched her over the past 25 years I can pretty much say she(Madonna) drives her own image, style and music.
Never been a huge Madonna fan, but she has continued to redefine &#39;pop&#39; music. She has set the standard, and changed the standard so many times I&#39;ve lost track. I will never(well maybe) buy a Madonna album, but I will always believe she is the personification of a &#39;pop star&#39;. She is what all pop acts aspire to be like it or not.

Overrated is indeed an act like &#39;Celine Dione&#39; who buys her own press so much that she thinks she is better than she really is(the word &#39;diva&#39; applies).

How about a band like &#39;Oasis&#39; did they make good music? yes. Were they the second coming of the Beatles(as they claimed)? not by a long shot.

Pearl Jam - (actually, most &#39;grunge&#39; bands) overrated

Whitney Houston - overrated (coke-head)

Any boy-band - overrated (though I do think Justin Timberlake may have some talent)

Limp Biscuit - (few good songs) still overrated

More than I care to remember, but until you have &#39;several&#39; hits, you are an overrated wannabe in my book.

people seem do not like my Madonna thought, but all comes down to ones opinnion. However, when saying that i wasn&#39;t thinking in terms of how long she has been arround, and how many reiventions of character she has gone through. for that, I take it back. I personally still don&#39;t think she is that great a singer, but that only comes down to what I look for in peoples singing.

Well I know I&#39;m going to take a lot of heat for this but I&#39;m going to say it anyway.
I feel that most rappers are overrated. I just don&#39;t get it. 90% of the rappers out there all rap about the same thing. About how much money they have, how many cars they have and how fast they go. All their expensive and tacky jewelery or &#39;bling-bling&#39;. Or how many records they&#39;ve sold because 13 year old kids are trying to be cool. Don&#39;t get me wrong, I think some of it is good. Eminem and Tupac are imo truly talented and gifted people who are actually saying something viable and important, not just the prefabricated &#39;just here to make money&#39; tripe of their genre peers. While I&#39;m sure there are more, I don&#39;t listen to the music so I&#39;m not familiar with everyone.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are the most overrated in my book. I can&#39;t think of one song of theirs that I like. I have tried to listen to them but when their songs come on the radio I find myself reaching to change the channel.
