I've downloaded Halo Combat Evolved for the pc which is 686MB from bittorrent. I get a load of files named flt-halo.001 to flt-halo.048 and flt-halo.sfv. I selected them all and went to open and it said 'Choosing 49 items to open may take a long time' Then each file asks me what to open it with individually, so I have 49 tabs on my taskbar.

How do I open them all in winrar?

Cheers

Open the lowest numbered one with winrar and you will see a bin and a cue.

Then burn or mount as you prefer.

Thanks for the reply, but when I opened 001 it says 'The archive is either in unknown format or damaged' I tried this with some others (048 and 039) a while ago and they all said the same thing. They can't all be damaged can they?

Also after I do this the icon changes from an unkwn file icon to one with a little rar icon inside, how do i change it back?

Cheers

I'd be willing to bet it's actually an ace file. Try the first one with winace and see what happens.

are you tring to open while seeding?
can't do it

1 way is to deleat a few rar files
then reopn the torrent, it will re download the missing rar file

do you have the latest winrar
they changed the algrythem awhile back, get the latest here
http://www.rarlabs.com

close all the tab's just open the 001 file, should give you bin/cue ready for mounting/burning

I didn't have bittorrent open so I wasn't seeding the file, also I did have WinRar 3 so i downloaded Version 3.2 and it came up with the same message:- 'The archive is either in unknown format or damaged'

Then how do you explain the unknown extension? HE said he had winrar installed.

If it is a rar, then winrar would have known that without being having to be manually reassociated with it's own extensions and icons.
It's obviously a file extension belonging to something he doesn't have installed.

nevertheless, whatever it is (winRAR on occasion doesn't show it's icon for split archive files), you don't want to extract
a numbered one, as you said here:

I opened 001 it says 'The archive is either in unknown format or damaged'

if it IS a .rar file (or whatever type archive) you want to open just the plain .rar.
That will set off extracting the disc images, or whatever they are, from the chunks in the numbered archives.

MOST segmented rar archives start with a .rar file, but some of them start with .001. i dunno why people make them without a .rar file, but sometimes they do. if there is no .rar, you should open the .001 file with winrar.

not sure why jacko is getting an error, though, unless he somehow disabled the hash check while downloading and received a corrupted segment. a lot of people have downloaded the Halo archive (starting with .001) and opened it without any problem.

i'd suggest running the torrent again and have bittorrent check the folder for corruption. if there is any corruption, it will delete the corrupted bit and re-download as much data as it needs to replace it.

another way to check for corruption is to open that SFV file with an SFV checker program, which will use the SFV file to examine the files for corruption. that's what the SFV file is for-- to use with a corruption detector.

Whatever the extension is shouldn't this be in Gamesworld?

nah, the question is appropriate to softwareworld. the topic just didn't need to mention Halo, because the content of the RAR archive is irrelevant to the problem. :P

I've downloaded SFV Checker V1.09 and it has checked all 48 files and it says all files are ok, there is no missing files and no invalid file. There probably something basic I'm not doing or doing wrong.
