"After less than 3 days, the 1.0.0 release of VLC has hit more than 3 million downloads on the download counter (http://www.videolan.org/stats/downloads.html). We would like to thank the people who have downloaded it and especially, people who have donated to our cause."

It has been a great program for years! They really deserve accolades for their continued improvements and their first 3 million downloads.

Great job, VLC!!!!

Yup...one of my favorites. No need to install codecs and I can't think of another app that can play a dvd iso!

That's the only use it holds for me these days.

I watch a lot of 1080 movies streaming to my TV and VLC simply can't handle it. I've found that Windows Media Player Home Cinema works best for all my needs these days.

as skizo said correctly, the player simply has bad coding, which results in a totally non streamlined HD playback. even trying to add coreavc to do the job simply won't make it as smooth as some other players.
i stay away from it like the devil from the cross. pretty much GOM or media player classic get my choice.

I primarily use KMplayer. It has a ton of hotkey controls, which I love and more features than any other player I've ever used. But, I still use VLC for the occasional broken video file which trips up KMplayer. VLC isn't poorly coded, it's just VERY robust in it's video processing which is less efficient than other players. But when no other player will play a file, chances are VLC will.

The only thing I use VLC for is screen shots in the actual DAR.

I prefer CCCP and Media Player Classic

I rarely use VLC, but it's always the solution if I want to play some weird fileformats. :)

Actually, Vlc pretty much plays everything...but the higher res formats do seem to get the better of it, i couple it with MPC and waala! Problem solved, still do have some issues with MPC going fullscreen though, it goes into a corner and kinda zooms into a spot, so it's like wathcing a freckle on the face of the character rather than the movie :p, i'll sort it out after i roll back to Xp, my piece o shit clearly can't handle the stupid OS(AKA vista), really really old hardware...

KMplayer is my player of choice these days, handles more stuff and handles it better than VLC.

MPC is my player of choice. VLC suddenly becomes retarded when it handles subs.

VLC + Mplayer is all anyone needs. I agree when it comes to HD material VLC just cannot handle it well enough compared to other players, hence the Mplayer. :yup:

VLC 1.0.0 it´s a good player, but the subtitles retarded and sometimes delay respect the video. Today, my election is MPlayer.

Well VLC is the only program that allows me to watch XviD encoded movies/shows with minimal lag on my 1902 pile of sticks that I call a PC. Not even WMP has achieved this.

Touché mbucari1 Touché

May I ask what media player(s) that "You Need?" Sorry if I missed the post, just curious is all.

EDIT:
Also why do you feel these player(s) that you use serve their purpose? No choppy video, AR correct off the bat, 1 click subtitle choice, etc... and what is your setup as far as HD content? Are you on an HTPC or using PCH or similar NMT? Also what is your TV setup in relation to that? If you do not mind me asking that is. Oh ya, while I am on the subject if it is one of the many NMT>HDTV setups that a lot of people are using now a days may I ask which exact NMT you are using and which chipset? Just curious is all. I mean the variety of choices out there now-a-days to watch HD content VIA the many containers and codec's. Be it in an MKV, TS or straight Blu-ray ISO container through a PC or other (Such as a NMT) has always interested me and I love to hear about peoples setups and how they view HD 720/1080p/i content. Things constantly evolve so I like to keep on top of it...Hobby of sorts.
