Sorry for another Halo thread

OK a few of us have played online with Mcnutter hosting and were gonna try and set it up as a regular thing.

Instructions for setting up online MP (credit to Mcnutter)

Install game (available on suprnova.org the bit torrent site)
Install patch 1.01 (available here (http://files.worthplaying.com/files/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=490))
Replace Halo.exe with the hacked public server Halo.exe (available on supranova.org filename:Halo_Combat_Evolved_Public_Server_Patch-FLTDOX)

The rest of the details we can sort out later if anyones interested in this (how to set up a game, times ppl are on etc.)

Post if your interested. :)

OK,i will host a game later about 21.00GMT.A CTF game with vehicles.Have tested mine and i hosted 8 players with my connection and didnt notice any lag,and we were able to talk too.

Can we all make sure we are using the same patch,just incase its that stoping us talking.I am on the public one.

Also did you password protect your server?Did you get any others joining?

I used the private server patch. I don't think there is a jot of difference between the public/private patch. I'll try the public one tonight though.

I did password protect my server so only people who browse this forum could enter. I didn't want random players using my bandwidth.

Let's try and move everyone over to the public patch. See if we can speak then. I think everyone used the private patch yesterday and no one could speak. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Instead of posting your IP it might be better to set up a public server and password protect it.

I also had DirectX problems with Halo. It refused to start:

I put it in Windows 98 Compatability mode and it worked a treat :) If you have the same problem it should work for you too.

I rebooted,set up no password and have players now.

Do not go through gamespy go via your Halo,direct IP.

I tried to hook up earlier on Gamespy and got the same error as you did.

EDIT: OK I found a permanent solution to the Halo.exe problems. Listen carefully :blink:

The 1.01 Halo.exe doesn't allow hosting of servers but has hundreds of servers online to play on.
The 1.00 Halo.exe allows hosting but there are only about 20 online servers to play on.

So if you have no intention of hosting a game only use the 1.01 version. If you want to host a server plus have hundreds of online servers to play on: download 1.01 and 1.00, put them both in the Halo directory (I changed the filename of the 1.00 version so they won't overwrite each other) and place shortcuts to both of them on your desktop. Also to play on a 1.00 server (the servers that will be posted here) you will need to use the 1.00 version so you may as well have both.

If that is the case then how was i able to host a few games last night using the 1.01 update?

AFAIK 1.01 users cannot join 1.0 servers.

Don't suppose anyone knows a way to kick people, it's driving me mad whenever I set up a game and bloody teamkillers go mad and the whole thing falls apart? Anyway to activate console commands or the like?

Can anyone tell me where the halo CD key is located in Regedit ?

I have a few keys i want to test :P

I looked in all the basic places, microsoft games / halo and i did a search for halo but nothing came up that looked like the key. I also searched for bungie and gearbox with no luck (names from loading screen)

Anyone know where its hiding ?

I looked in all the basic places, microsoft games / halo and i did a search for halo but nothing came up that looked like the key. I also searched for bungie and gearbox with no luck (names from loading screen)

Anyone know where its hiding ?

I think that is it, click on it, and there should be a title named PID.
