Hi all was just wondering what your opinions are. Because I have a linksys high-speed modem and currently I'm using the ethernet cable connected to my network card, but I could also use usb 2.0. I would like to use the network card for my xbox so I was wondering if there really was a big difference in speeds and maybe quality of connection. Thx 4 ne and all help :D

the big difference will be in the average ping of the connection...
usb 'fights' for your cpu time, which can cause spikes in the average ping
not really important unless you play a lot of multiplayer games, but something worth considering

is usb 2.0 faster then ethernet ?

Although usb 2.0 is faster than ethernet in terms of transmission speed, it is slower in terms of turn-round time, so the two cancel each other out. In any case, the transmission time for a full network packet between cpu and modem is less than a millisecond whichever connection type you use, so you really wont notice the difference.

The limiting factor is the adsl speed. which is hundreds of times slower.

USB 2.0 is faster than 10/100 ethernet, as USB 2.0 transfers at something like 400mb per second right?

Anyhow... you can get 100/1000mb ethernet now, which pretty much blows the USB option away.

the usb 2.0 protocol has a max transfer rate of 480Mbps

gigabit lan is rated a lot faster, however, it's curently prohibitively expensive

If you use all the best equiptment ethernet should be better
