All time favourite actor would have to be Morgan Freeman. I'm not saying he hasn't made any, but to date I haven't seen a bad film he's been in...

Yeah DeNiro, Pacino and all the typical 'old school' are brilliant actors in their own way and in the roles that suit them, however for me, Freeman just pips them all slightly :)

Jeff Bridges has some pretty good rules but I would say Jack Nicholson. He really shows that an actor can play diverse roles and still be good at it.
Actress would be Meryl Streep well, 4 oscars and 13 nominations really do help.

then I like Robert Duvall, Barbara Stanwyck, and Carry Grant.

I like to think the critics don't have much to do with my choices, but when it comes to Marlon Brando it seems that everyone sees something different in his acting. So often after hearing comments I'll notice these things myself. What I like about him though is his voice primarily. In One Eyed Jack(s?) he pulled off a dialect that I've only heard in one other place- Southern Florida. Curiously though there was another actor in the film with a markedly similar way of speaking. It's been a while so I don't recall his name, but I think he had a black cowboy hat.
