I am wondering whether it is possible to install PHP on a server on which you do not have shell-access to?

I was going to use my ISP webspace, but I don't think they have SQL and PHP pre-installed.

it has been awhile since i set up a web site from scratch but quite often you can get other servers to host / do certain things for you while keeping your site where it is

MySQL 7? Funny... last time I checked (about a weeks ago), they were only on 4. :P [edit: Ok, I'm guessing the 7 was supposed to be an ampersand (&), and you just missed the Shift key. ;)]
I'm running Apache 1.3.28, PHP 4.3.3, and MySQL 4.0.14b. Probably going to install the latest ActivePerl, eventhough I don't do much Perl prgramming anymore...
And to answer the original question: That's a big, fat no. I'm sure you can admire the stupendous security risk involved in allowing users to install any software they wanted onto the server.
im sure lycos has php and mysql support, well lycos.co.uk anyway
