9/11? Any date significance?

Stolen HL2 Source Code.. mmHmm, is it a good or bad thing for the end-users like me?

no date significance. thats just the day that stuff started happening but this might result in another post-ponement of the game if they need to re-do the code which would take...well a long time. the only thing that the people could do is have cheats for the Multi-player when the game comes out. but anybody could see the source codes for Valve's precious HL2 and Havok's 2.0 Engine thats closely gaurded.

yeh, i've seen the source package around. its a shame really, that Valve don't have better security. why was the source even on a machine with net access?? thats not the way you should handle important company stuff... <_<

i bet that this is all a hoax. it's probably just an excuse to delay the release of hl 2

Have you read Gabe's post about the situation? I blame Microsoft...

yes i read it all.

bah. everybody knows microsoft products are full with security holes. so, if you develop software that is to be run on a microsoft system, you better not have the source code on a machine with net access...

dont think you guys get the full effect of how big it is.

This is the entire game source. Engine, physics, gameplay, network, STEAM VERIFICATION, CD KEY VERIFICATION, etc.

Not to mention code from OTHER companies that valve wasnt supposed to share with ANYONE. So if it ends up that it was leaked by ati or nvidia, they are royally fucked.

Valve was relying on this technology to make them money by selling the game engine. Now who cares, its out, and everyone can see it.

Plus they are going to get sued out the ass by everyone that has code in that game.

They are in deep deep trouble, hax0rs in their game is the LEAST of their concerns.

i know, i know. that's why i feel bad for Valve. they might go out of business because of this. and that is a shame, even if you don't like Half Life. Valve is a great developer, and it would be a great loss for the game industry if they went down. :(

They might not release half-life 2 because of this now

and they had plans for half-life 3 but now forget about it
