Wow, help me out here please, I am feeling a little swamped

I am a very light torrent user. I download a few movies each month, a few sporting events, a few songs or albums, a few TV episodes, a few e-books and a some other bits and pieces.

I got most of my stuff off piratebay. Not that it matters, but just for the record I have always been a good citizen, seeding where it was needed without any rules in place. Because of the recent changes at TPB, I decided to find an alternative. I learnt about private trackers in the process of looking, even got myself a small seedbox. Now comes the problem, there are sooo many private trackers, and all of them have reasonable reviews.

Can anyone help me out with an honest to goodness suggestion of a tracker for a causual broad based user like me. The most important thing for me is variety of torrents, I dont always watch the latest movie or listen to the latest music. The only thing is, please don't suggest a tracker that is closed for signup, I am strictly a casual user, so I don't really want to get into invite trading or anything like that. I would also prefer a tracker that does not require you to be too active on forums or IRC, quite honestly I prefer to spend my time reading or doing woodwork. Ratio rules are no problem though. Ok, now all you kids can stop laughing your asses off at me, nobody escapes age

Thank you in advance.

Demonoid. You might need a sign-up code because it's not open 24-7 but it does open once or so a week I believe, if you're patient.

I would honestly suggest torrentleech. Very easy to seed, and easily has the widest variety of torrents I've seen from any bigshot general tracker. It has the widest "variety" you'll find in a general tracker.

It is however closed to signups, but it shouldn't be very hard to find an invite. Make a genuine request and you might get lucky ;). It's relatively "low level" and not very "l33t" (ie invites are not impossible to find) so you shouldn't have too many issues.

If you really need an open signup tracker you could try torrentbytes(Make sure you READ the faq, rules, and follow their instructions WORD FOR WORD when signing up, they have a painstakingly nitpicky registration process), demonoid (no ratio rules so slow) or bitsoup (I get 5-6 pms every sign fricking day asking for donations), which are open for signup relatively often but if your looking for a signle dedicated tracker TL is your best bet imo.

TorrentBytes is 0day it does not have older movies. Infact it implements TTL and deletes (relatively) old stuff even if they have seeds.

demonoid is definitely a great choice, but if you'll want something less messed up, i could recommend you iptorrents - it's invite only, but i'm sure that if you'll make a request here when you'll be able to do it, it will be filled. there are ~64k torrents by the way. ratioless pretome with 37k torrents could be a good alternative.

if you definitely want open signups - well, stick with bitsoup/torrentbytes, but trackers, mentioned above are better :)

There is no perfect tracker .
If you are unconcerned about speed Demonoid is the best choice since it has the greatest variety along with terrific retention . Otherwise go with IPtorrents.
Although it is invite only you can pay a tiny amount and get in as a VIP.
Good request filling for hard to find stuff too.

Welcome, Amashinga! I enjoyed reading your post. I really hope you decide to stick around and visit with us. With a sincere, honest, and well articulated post like this one, you will have no problem receiving invites. As a matter of fact, if you were through your 30 day probation, I would give you a few to choose from myself.

Please stay away from trading! It is one of those things that you can do, but once you are involved, many of the people who would have helped you, no longer will.

Anyway, stick around FST, engage in come conversations, and ride out you "probation" period. After that, PM me with a link to this page (so I don't think you are just someone randomly asking for invites) and we can go from there. :)

Good to have you here!

If TPS worked well for you, I would suggest Demonoid. It's got a massive selection, and since you don't seem too worried about pre-times or speed, Demonoid will be great for you!

Try everything you can and keep what you like and stop looking once you're satisfied. I'm on 4 main trackers right now but for the longest time was on 3. However, in the beginning I was on almost 20 checking them all out. If you don't like a tracker then just never log in again. It will expire in time and that will be the end of it.

You can download from demonoid without having an account there.

Only the newer stuff though? or has it changed. Used to not be able to see/download the older stuff there without having an account.

I could be wrong, its been a while :dabs:

Don't think there is any change, but that was how I started using Demonoid before I got an account there.

Thank you for the advice everyone. I am going to take the advice, I will stick with piratebay for a couple of weeks, and I will definately take a look and see what I can get from demonoid right now. When I am allowed, I will post in the reqest site. Thank you very much to those that seemed open to discussing invites at that time.

It took a bit of back and forth before I posted this request in the first place since I did not want it to come across as a thinly veiled attempt to secure an invite, I wanted suggestions from those with a little more experience in this than I have, which is exactly what I got.

Much appreciated

^^ Nice op, and I was pleased to see no flaming or put-downs. It looks like megebytme's offer of help should give you a decent start on a site or two, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Since it sounds like you're hooked up in that regard, no need to speak further to your individual request; but in case other's have a similar question I agree with the above suggestions: Demonoid, TL - both good choices. To the list I'd add RevTT. To bad you missed it be a few days - they just had open signup. It's a nice site with that variety you're looking for.

What makes torrenting particularly fun though, is seeing those decent speeds and getting your file in minutes not days :) In that regard, Demonoid - as much as it's a favourite of mine for nastolgic reasons, is slower than slow. TL and RevTT shouldn't disappoint overall.

Cheers

Welcome to torrenting and have fun :)

My 2 gig Total War demonoid torrent is taking a whole day to download

I like to use Demonoid as my backup search, or when it's something I'm in no hurry to get, like a couple Total War games. I would hate to wait for The Office or something from demonoid when I could get it in like 15 minutes from TL.

Amashinga you might give zamunda a try.The speeds on average are a lot better than Demonoid and it has just as many movies. It fact if I have no luck on other trackers I usually find want I want there.
The downside is that it's Bulgarian and although you can set the default language to English you are still going to be spending some time at google translate.

torrentbytes and demonoid Is what I think would be best. For new stuff use TB and for everything else use demonoid.

I'm in the same situation as you, and I recommend signing up for more than a few to start with. I've been on some specialty torrent sites like bitme for a few years, but always used newsgroups or public trackers because the seeding was such a pain with a bad upstream. Cox, though, has come a long way, and I've been able to get a much higher upload rate in the last year or two, so I've gone almost completely private.

My suggestion for you is to use demonoid, just like the other posters, and I've found one site that I don't mind in terms of new release stuff for TV and movies, ilovetorrents. They don't have a huge flood of content, they're easy to seed, and most major stuff comes out pretty quickly. They're not a top rated site or anything, but its a good thing to get your feet wet with a less known/active site, because the most popular ones have REALLY STRICT rules, and the communities and staff are much less forgiving for mistakes, inactivity, etc.

I've found that personally, I am really starting to like specialty sites, like I just joined one that is dedicated to poker related stuff, and the depth of content there is striking when compared to a general tracker, so you may want to decide if you're interested in anything specifically and try to find a site for that type of content.

Good luck, and make sure that you really do read the rules on any site you join, its not like your typical accept this legal boilerplate contract, they really expect you to know and follow all the rules, and they're not happy if you break them! This goes for pretty much all private trackers.
