It's missing the commonly used icons!! I tried lowering the numbers and increasing! I tried clear list! Don't want to do a system restore! And here is something weird. The other profiles can show the commonly used icons. Weird isn't it?

by commonly used items i guess you mean the one's underneath where you have those internet and email icons?

putting them back couldn't be simpler, go to All Programs and right click on any programs you use a lot and select Pin to Start Menu.

hope that helps.

My start menu is so messed up. I have to do the thing again. Thanks for the help though

but that solution "Pins" them to the start menu, meaning they're not dynamic based on usage. I don't know a solution offhand, but
you can always backup your files to another directory, log in as administrator, delete your profiles, and create another.

Have you tried changing it back to Classic Start menu, then back to XP Start Menu?

there's also an article here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;292504) about policy & the Start Menu list.
But that won't be the prob unless you're using XP Professional,
but you can check & see it those registry keys have been altered.

too bad Balamm's not around...he prolly knows.

worse case system restore if you like and make sure you don't check that tweak

Why not just "open" about six applications and allow them to become naturally affixed to the menu?

If that does not work- then hell, your fucked. :(

In TweakXP go to windows tweaks>windows tweaks I, and uncheck "hide favorites"

Tweak XP creates a new subkey to turn this off/on called "StartMenuFavorites" at
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Edit: Sorry, this creates a favorites icon on the start menu and not the frequently used programs list.

I have the same problem but as yet it is unsolved.

Look here for my problem. (http://www.klboard.ath.cx/index.php?showtopic=71295&hl=)

I have tried the same things as you kiler but nothing worked.

Have you also noticed that on the Start Menu the grey line that used to seperate the commonly used programs and pinned items is at the bottom of the menu now.I'm sure this has something to do with it.

BTW I have that registry key but changing it hasn't helped.

Just go for creating a new profile for yourself....

But apart from this problem there is nothing wrong with my account so I don't really want to set up another one.

Also I'm sure that we'll find a solution soon and I'd rather (if possible) fix the problem like that.

Welp.. My problem is just the commonly used shortcuts.. your's is EVERYTHING!! I think that it's something in the registry.

Problem Solved. It was my bad. I disabled intrumentation. I didn't know what it was. So now it's enabled.

Exactly.
I do have tweak xp pro and don't think that caused the problem but it might repair it.

Please let me know you find "instrumentation".

Download Tweak XP. It's in system teaks then privacy. In there is instrumentation.

Are we talking about tweak xp from totalidea because I already had v2.0 and have just installed v3.0 and still cannot find where you mean.

10-07-2003, 02:14 AM
Oh.
Well, I had tweak XP at one time...but you don't need it.
Tweak UI from MS is fine. and most of the stuff in there you can do via direct registry editing anyway...
