View Full Version : what if you had stayed with your first tracker only?

Imagine what it would be like if you had stayed only with the first tracker you discovered. Assume that you would have no knowledge of other trackers even existing, let alone being able to compare the content or speeds or whatever.

I thought about this recently and realized that I'd probably be happy as hell with Bitsoup. I'd have stuck around there and been a member for over 2 years with TBs seeded from home, never even knowing I could have more (or less) from anywhere else online.

I'm not asking which tracker is your favorite or whether you'd be better of or not or what it was. I don't care. But where would you be in your torrenting e-life if that first tracker, your first love, was the only one you'd ever known? Just imagine.

i would be pretty content i imagine. This whole tracker hype is pissing me off a lot, its as if people completely misunderstand what torrenting is about. Not to mention the whole same-person-every-site syndrome.

Well it depends on which tracker I would really consider my "first". My first was demonoid, but I wouldn't really consider it a "private" tracker considering how often it's open, the external torrents, and how people who don't have an account can DL from it.

My first private tracker that actually cared about my ratio/seedtime would be TL, and I think I would've survived just fine. Almost all the content I want is there, with the rare exception of some VC games I get on BCG, and its easy to seed. I think I would've done just fine.

You are in fact almost exactly describing the first 3 years of my torrenting life on Aradi and yes I was both happier and more content.

I stayed to TBy (earlier when it was TB) since 1/05. I'm still active there. It satisfied my content needs and when I decided to join the forums, everyone was (and still is) a lot of fun. I started looking around 6-9 months ago and have enjoyed the new experiences. Chuckled at some of the discussions that had the same arguments, but different players. And have found a few new places I think of as home. TBy is still one of my favorites.

Good topic, OP!

For sure it would have been the best option, my first was Iplay. Honestly all those trackers don't do anything more than just to create confusion in your little brain.

For me it's a bit like going into a bar where it's wall to wall with different beers. All I really want is my favourite beer.

I think I would have been more content for some time. My first private tracker was TTi which I got from one of my friends, and I would sure keep seeding for that 10-TB user class.

However, I would probably be in a bit of despair since TTi deleted their torrent DB this spring trying to become legal (just to return to standard sharing later). Now the site has lost it's lifespark, regulars deleted their accs and found new places during the "legal time", so now the site is kind of meh.

Agreed with IdolEyes787 said, demonoid was my first tracker and I was happy with that.

I wouldn't still be on my first site, or second for that matter. My needs drove me to find more sources. True, later, after finding FST, that wasn't all that drove me, curiosity was introduced as well.

My first was Demonoid and I guess I don't fit the norm here. I am quite happy checking 10 sites, to find where I can get the best quality encode of a movie, or juggling 5 different music trackers to find that FLAC/LOG/CUE I want.

But taking into account, that you said if I didn't know any other trackers (and qualities) existed, then yes, I would be happy with my crap 192Kbps mp3 albums and 700MB scene releases

My needs change over time. My first tracker cannot accommodate my needs.

Nice topic OP.

If I would have stayed with my first tracker then I would be seriously limiting myself to only one type of content since it was BCG.

If i had stayed on with my first tracker,i would have had the largest p0rn collection ever and feds looking everywhere to gimme a blowjob.
They open signups faster than swepsycho changes his list of most wanted trackers.Their speeds put ScT to shame. no kidding.
The tracker is T-D. (Too bad it was the only tracker i ever "buffered", and the 800GiB buffer became such a waste. :-/)

I'd have a great ratio that's for sure , sometimes the devil you know is better than the one you don't .

My needs change over time. My first tracker cannot accommodate my needs.

That would be your wants unless the trackers that you're on distribute more than files.

Personally I'm happy if I can just find something relatively entertaining to watch or catchy to listen to. Doesn't even have to be the best copy. Being FLAC or blue-ray as far as I know never improved the script or penned a better melody . Goods good regardless of the encode.

I also think if I ever really needed anything that badly I'd buy it.

I'd be without a tracker because my first one was Suprnova.

My first one still alive was TL in 2005 which I of course use until today.

I'd have a tough time keeping a ratio at RevoTT with all the things I'd want to download. That's the only downside of RevoTT, no bonus system and at the same time it's not quite as easy to keep a ratio as at TL if you're anxious to download.

I didn't get into Demonoid untill much later as I was afraid to ask for invites as they were supposed to be just for friends and I had no friends that I only knew online back then.

It's really interesting to hear your perspectives on this question.

The primary reason for seeking other trackers was more diverse content. Most of the people giving this reason used a very specific first tracker. Others on more general sites might have been satisfied content wise.

My big moment of enlightenment was when I realized that the iso files I was downloading because I liked the picture quality could actually be burned. On my quest for more, I stumbled upon many dvdr sites as well as some hd sites.

The first tracker I discovered was The Pirate Bay. If I wouldn't have found out about other trackers, I wouldn't even be torrenting right now. :smilie4:

The thing is. I liked my former filesharing method better than TPB, so I wouldn't have moved over to torrents because of that site. :P

I would no longer be using torrents, as my first site Suprnova was closed down.
As was my second TorrentIt.

So I guess if I use the first tracker i was invited to after TorrentIt died as an example, as it is still around, I would have been more than happy with just that.

Since my first tracker was Hawkies World (deceased) along with Digital Update (deceased), I'd be floating about in a void.

Then there was UK-Fileshare, TorrentFilez and UK-Torrents, which are all dead now. Even more void.

Damn. I've seen the demise of some of the best trackers ever.

Of course, one tracker still running is FileList, but to be honest it has gone way downhill from the days I used to be a member there.
