View Full Version : Xirvik trial review

Since nobody else has started a thread yet, here it is....

This is the first time i've logged into a box through an interface. Naturally, i'd like more control but the rutorrent webui is very simple to navigate through.

Speeds---I haven't had the chance to load any torrents with heavy peer activity yet but so far i'm getting a stable 1.4MB/s upload on the one torrent i have active. I can't wait to see how it will do in a real swarm

I don't have much more to say about it atm because i haven't spent much time with it. Since they are offering these trials for free, I felt I should post my initial reaction/impression.

So far so good

I'm not quite sure when the trial is expected to end so I'm just going to give my review for 6 days....

Interface---The rtorrent interface was very simple to use (my first time ever using it) and i had no trouble feeling my way around.

Speeds---I really didn't have the time to sit and look for good swarms. I just downloaded whatever I normally would through the rtorrent and used http+download manager to download the files to my pc later. Nevertheless, I was able to upload over 700gb in 6 days. Given there are 30 days in a month, 3TB of traffic should be a fair estimate for casual seeding. Obviously, if one were to choose torrents more selectively, it'd be pretty easy to upload more than 3TB/month. You can see here for yourself

http://thumbnails20.imagebam.com/4931/80514749303750.gif (http://www.imagebam.com/image/80514749303750)

Customer Service---I have no clue. I never needed to contact them

Now comes the important shit...

Pros:
easy to use
good speeds

Cons:
no root access
trial could have been longer :p

Would i pay $24.95-29.95 for this exact same service? Why?

Yes!!

I've never been in active search of a seedbox or dedicated server. But I'm well aware of the new bandwidth/traffic restrictions being used by the popular hosting companies--ovh/kimsufi. I live in california and have no means of getting a dedi from ovh (france). Furthermore, I have no desire to pay for setup or windows license if i don't have to.

Xirvik offers a service for $30/month (usd) and it saves me the trouble of searching all over the net for the sole purpose of *possibly* finding something a few dollars cheaper. I've been quite satisfied with the speeds and stability they've offered over the last 6 days. If i were looking for a monthly seedbox, I'd look no further. Xirvik was more than good enough for me.

8.5/10

I am satisfied as well but the speeds:
Top download speed i manage is 6Mb/s but most of the time is around 3 not so good but
Uplad speed is disaster i didnt manage to pass 3Mb/s mark on either one of the torrents it seems like its locked on that speed.

Sounds decent...which type box(s) did you use? (shared, dedi, etc.)

I also live in California and the speeds I got were great. Like kooftspc11 I really didn't look for the best torrents to seed I just downloaded at random. Speeds I got were 7-9MB/s download and 7MB/s upload. For $30 a month the service is worth it, the interface was easy to use and the proxy service you get with it is useful as well. FTP speeds were also faster than other seedbox hosts I have used (500-600KB/s). The support was great too as I mentioned in another thread I had a problem with logging on and got it resolved within a few minutes on MSN. Overall I think if you are looking for a seedbox host for around $25-30, you can't go wrong with the semi-dedicated package from Xirvik

very good performance for a American DC , the only reason i signed up was to check rtorrent with rutorrent, which rocks i could easily make torrents with the web gui , sppeds were very good considering it was shared box , got downloads up to full 10mbs and upload peaked at 3mb which is very decent for a shared box.

support was not needed , but Xirvik provides excellent support since i have rented a dedi from him past

Xirvik Semidedicated server: 24.95-29.95

What was included:
- Your own IP address - no one else is using it.
- Encrypted transmissions in both web (HTTPS) and FTP (FTTPES).
- HTTP proxy, so you can access the world without anyone knowing your real IP address.
- No torrents limit.
- 150gb storage
- No traffic limit.
- 100 Mbit/s connection.
- rtorrent either with ruTorrent, wTorrent, or rtGui

Interface:
Pros:
Never used rTorrent before but it was quite easy to use. I could easily use any three interfaces offered for the box. rtGUI seemed to run smoothest and not laggy. Using ruTorrent which was the recommended interface was quite laggy and when adding new torrents or rehashing files can cause timeout errors. wTorrent worked well though and had a nice easy to see format but there was no area to see how much you uploaded on a torrent, just a ratio. Thats why between the three i felt rtGUI was the best and smoothest interface.

Cons:
The cons to using rTorrent interfaces was not the ability to unrar files that you downloaded. This would allow you to rehash and seed on sites that dont use rars. Also using the torrent interface you aren't able to use scripts and such to auto-download. The ruTorrent interface does have an RSS though i did not test it out. The wTorrent also allows for rss feeds as well but no automation.

Speeds:
I got pretty decent upload speeds that ranged mostly from 1mb/s to a max of 3mb/s. Download speeds varied largely depending on swarm size. With one large swarm of seeders I got a max of 8.9mb/s. Most download speeds were about 3mb/s though. Upload was steady around 1.7mb/s for most of the time seeding. Most of the time the max was 2.7mb/s regardless of how many files im uploading at a time, seemed to be restricted at that though i did hit 3mb/s for a few seconds as you can see below. Overall I got a total of around 780gb uploaded in a week seeding on various high traffic sites. I did also only use half the box hd space as i felt if I kept downloading more files it would bog it down and also the upload wasnt going to vary much as i was maxing it at 2.7-3mb/s continuously. Highest upload I got was about 145gb on a single 12gb file.

Max download:
http://i36.tinypic.com/2zgcf36.jpg

Max upload:
http://i38.tinypic.com/2i24mjn.jpg

FTP/HTTP:
I did not try out the ftp but I did try to download via http which was very simple. Theres a section you can go to where you can click on any file and download it just like you would download a .torrent file. Only drawback is you have to click each file individually. I did try to create a .torrent and download via rtorrent to my house and got speeds of about 100-200kb/s. Using the http download i got about 1.5mb/s which was a lot better.

Customer service:
I did not contact them though it seems the layout of the box is very simple and easy to use. Theres a support forum and can contact them via msn if need be. They also email you to remind you that your box will be expiring both 1 and 2 days before it does to allow you to renew or not.

Overall:
The box runs good. I would recommend it for a person who is a casual seedboxer, not one who is hardcore and looking for large swarm speeds and tons of tbs. Max seedbox usage I would say would be in the 3tb a month range. Decent price for 3tb of data. If you want large swarm speeds and more TB's, look into an unlimited dedi box they offer but they start at 49.95. So if you feel you need 3tb or more then go with one of them. But for half the price you cant go wrong.

9/10 for a semidedicated

i never hit > 3MB/s on upload speed but i didn't really expect to either...On download i was able to reach 8MB/s i think.

The only type of box i'd ever used (before this) was dedicated so i was a bit frustrated with the inability to unrar files. Aside from that, I can't say i had any complaints. The 3TB mark could easily be reached (and passed) with just a little bit of effort.

Even on a dedicated box it still takes a good amount of effort to seed more than 3TB/month. Plus, dedicated box also presents the problems of "disk overloaded," something i never had to deal with when using this trial.

Plus, has anybody actually calculated the price difference for a truly unlimited/unmetered (100mb guaranteed) dedicated server? It's a fucking hell of alot more than $30/month usd.

Great Service,Support.
The speeds were good ,for downloads-got to a max of 7MB/s one some sites ,average it was 3.5MB/s
Uploads were-4MB/s was the most i could get ,average was around 2MB/s
Was able to Upload abt 500GB in a week.

Rating would be 7/10.
For a semidedicated server at 25$ per month,i guess it would be the best option out there.

What, just now I read there are free trials. I've already paid for an account at xirvik and it is pretty good actually.
I like the interface, but it lacks a few key options. Unraring would be a nice feature to add.

I like the interface, but it lacks a few key options. Unraring would be a nice feature to add.

The thing is, these semidedicated servers give a lot of space, unlimited torrents, etc, for little money, but the downside is that we are squeezing every drop of performance out of them - unraring in the server on top of having unlimited torrents would be very very slow, and also add a lot of load to HDs that are already giving everything :-)

If you need more than torrenting, you can go with a shared server (they are very large, so there's lots of spare power around to unrar, etc) or a dedicated server. Did I mention our dedicated servers now come with utorrent on top of everything else?

I signed up for a semidedi last night around 11pm CST. Will I get a free week since thats their advertisement on the site(12hrs or less setup or free first week!!). I havent been able to get a hold of their support through email or msn. After the snafu with o-sys.pl, after 4 months of gr8 service, I badly need a new seedbox. I have been inactive on all my private sites for the last couple of weeks and am already getting mails threatening to shut down my hardearned acounts.

All I can say is their support is the best I saw until now.
I have xirvik added to my messenger.
He is allways very polite and helpfull.
I have two seedboxs from them, and I'm very happy.
the speeds are great. I can easily get 11.2mb sec down and up.

One of the seeds is the personal plan (the cheapest) with 1GB mem and 250gb hdd.
The other is the personal 500 plan with 2gb RAM.
The most noticeable thing is when i have both upload and download reaching the ceiling.
The box with less mem and the small disk cannot reach 11mb down and up simultaneously. The other can top both at same time.

Later I decide to convert both seedboxs to dedi servers and once more xirvik was fast and impressively efficient.
In less than one hour after asking him in messenger I have the root pass to start configuring my box.

After being almost 6 months in seedhost.eu, I can't even describe the world of differences about the support.

For me I will give 5 stars.. no prob
Best reseller to me.

Sorry, just saw this...please don't ask for support in a forum thread, that's expecting too much from us :-)

We don't have any pending order. If you didn't get your server (and the email with the login data is not in the spam folder etc) please get in touch via email or MSN and we'll track it down.

It's the best 100mbit seedbox ive used, am the average is always 3MB/s - 5MB/s at least, i never fall below 3MB/s. My average upload per 24hours is 336.7GB.

am considering changing to the 1Gbit/s when this expires to see how that goes.

10/10 obviously!

I picked up a dedi box today and I must say the speeds are excellent. I really like the interface options and the other bells and whistles you get with the service. The customer service is very friendly so far and got my box very very fast. I know it is early but my first impression is very positive.

I have been using Xirvik for about 4 months. I have a dedicated server package for 3 months for less than $50 per month. Customer service has been quick and effective.

I have improved my ratio at one tracker from 1:1 to 5.5:1. I have downloaded 2TB total, and uploaded about 11 TB total, so I have a margin of around 9 TB. This was pretty easy to do.

I have never downloaded torrents I was not interested in keeping. But I discovered that new torrents are best... after a few weeks there is little or no activity on the torrents.

One particular torrent was about 20Gb. I have uploaded almost 1 TB just on this one torrent. I got in on the right time. I have a few other torrents of similar size... 10gb to 20gb... and they have uploaded around 400gb.

I consider a torrent successful if I can upload 100gb. Whether the torrent is 1gb or less, or in the 2gb to 4gb range... it is pretty easy to seed to 100gb.

If you have a constricted upstream at home... consider a seed box. I am happy that I have improved my ratio at two trackers.

I use an FTP program (FileZilla because it was free) to bring my data home from the seed box. My speeds are really quite acceptable, but I do not know now to judge my download speeds. When I want to bring my data to my house I find that I must turn off all seeding on my dedicated box and focus on getting my data free from errors. But this does not take long so it is okay for me.

I have never yet created my own torrent. Just not interested at this point... and no need for it.

I've had my seedbox from Xirvik active for about a week now (the least expensive dedicated one, located in France, so based out of OVH France. The setup time took slightly longer than advertised (it was ready in about 26 hours), but I consider this pretty good, considering I ordered it at midnight on a Sunday.

The account activation email is full of good information to get a person started. There is a useful link to various tutorials that Xirvik provides to people new to seedboxes (I'm fairly new, but have learned quite a bit through research, trial and error.). The url you connect to is accessed via a name and password, and takes place on a secure URL. The main page tells you everything about what your dedicated server is capable of doing, and the pros and cons of the various options available (when there is redundancy). I'd gotten used to rutorrent before joining Xirvik, so I was happy to see that it was their recommended rtorrent client web interface. It's by far better than any other interface I've tried, and I've tried them all! Xirvik installs all the plugins, so you'll find a fully-featured WebUI that gives you all the control you would want over your torrents.

I've had no problems connecting and using my seedbox since it was set up. The speeds are as expected for 100MBit, hitting 10MB/sec both up and down without any difficulty. Setting ratios is very simple, if needed, but most of the time I just let them run and come back a day or two later to find whatever torrent I'm running very well-seeded. I download using Filezilla with FTPES security, and it's plenty fast, but not quite as streamlined as an SFTP connection, which is what I was used to. FTPES has much more dialogue and takes a bit longer to get started, but it transfers without incident once it gets going.

I think most will find the people at Xirvik are professional and knowledgeable. They will answer any questions you might have about their services, and even offer advice regarding competitive services and how their service would compare. They even recommended I stay with my former provider as long as the service was good, because they felt the price I was getting was very competitive for what I had purchased.

If the quality of my seedbox and the service Xirvik provides remains consistent, I can see myself using their services on a regular basis.

unrar is available and you get root access if you install things yourself.

We don't give root access to preconfigured seedboxes. We would be all day long fixing stuff, people touch every possible setting for no reason and don't even bother to write down the original value :-)

Not giving root is in the benefit of most users.

I've been using Xirvik's PERSONAL PLAN 500 for a month now.

Setup time:
Server was setup in about 20 hours after ordering.

Speed:
Pretty much anything I downloaded came in at 11mbps+
Upload varied... If I were to average it out I'd say upload was at around 4mbps. But there were times when it would go up to 11mbps.

Features:
This is where Xirvik really shines IMHO.
Multiple bittorrent clients: I used both utorrent and rutorrent just because utorrent doesn't really give you all the info on the torrent or details of a tracker error. uttorrent won't even tell you how much space is left on your drive... rutorrent does.

HTTP/Proxy: The box came configured as a HTTP Proxy. I used this feature A LOT. The country I am in blocks a lot of sites on the net. This was a really good feature.

OpenVPN: Never could get this to work. I tried once getting support on this but didn't get a reply back.

FTP: For some reason FTP is really flaky... it could be my connection but I timed out a lot on FTP...

HTTP access to download: If this wasn't there I'd be really pissed just cause FTP was always timing out...

Support:
He's almost ALWAYS online on Live messenger... but almost NEVER responds! Everytime I needed help I had to email it. But response time to emails was around 4 hours average... I contacted support around 3 maybe 4 times... twice because rutorrent's interface got screwed up.

Box Stability:
At one time I has over a 100 torrents running...
Anytime I try to remove a big torrent (5gb+) rutorrent would timeout for a while... and sometimes crash. I used utorrent heavily... it crashed on me around 5 times I think... and had to restart the server to bring it back up. Nothing major... everything comes back to life after a restart. Never lost anything.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it... I'm currently also trying out the SX20+ from www.seedbox.org.ua. Speeds are really good... but I miss the features from Xirvik... I'll let you know how the box performs in a few days...

How are semi dedi rated from Xirvik. They say they have 3 users per server. I was last time on a seedhost semi dedi with 2 users per server. I was able to hit 10mb/s up at time. However it averaged at 5-6 mb/s up for me there. I think the user was not active i guess. Dont know

I am considering semi dedi from the Xirvik now. So any reviews on that ? Their upload speed especially.

I got a ratio saver for fun for now from them. I do now even know why. Worked good for like 2 days, got around 1.5 to 2 mb/s up at almost average. It is hoever stuck right now for the whole day. Told them on the msn, my server and username and all. Lets see if they get it back up.

(Am not really pissed that its not working for me now because i really dont care much about that ratio saver server. But still would like to check how long it takes for them to fix it.)

Oh btw i forgot to mention. The problem was fixed in an hour after reporting on msn. So for me the service was pretty fast i guess.

And one more thing i would like to mention. I had ended up ordering a semi dedi. But later realized i had to be on move for around a week.
Asked for a refund ( it wasnt set up yet ).
Was given one right away.

So i would give that 9.9/10 on service :)

We always make up for downtime - it's been company policy since 1st day and it will always be, even when this happens most of the time is actually datacenter's network issues, etc, so we just eat the cost.

However, after about 3 hours my speeds have dropped to less than 1MB/s in either direction. I tried re-starting urTorrent and it has not helped. In fact, it's taken over 2 hours for ONE 6GB file to error-check and restart.

Support has been offline and unavailable for four hours. Hoping for a response and resolution tomorrow. Attempts to post or reply on their threads greet you with an "insufficient privileges" message.

(it also took them 17 hours to setup my account. Not horrible, but not within their "12 hour promise".

Email sent. Would I have better luck with email or IMs?

Still waiting on a response from support. Speeds continued to be extremely slow overnight. Looks like the server reset at some point as several of my torrents restarted and are re-hashing (an eternally long process).

ruTorrent has been sluggish and unresponsive so far. Several times while trying to log in my connection has timed out. But hey, when it works it's the best WebUI I've used.

Just wanted to update on my situation:

Heard back from support today. They said that for some unknown reason my server was using an enormous amount of RAM. After a reset, ruTorrent seems quicker, but still a little slow for my tastes. My torrents still take forever to rehash. A 10GB Blu-Ray has taken over an hour to check 2.5%.

Speeds continue to be a major concern. I haven't had a consistent upload OR download above 1.5MB/S TOTAL (right now hovering around 500-900K). Emailed support again, hopefully they can solve my problem fast.

im having 3 torrents running from 3 diff tracker, and the download speed is awesome ,but upload speed not even hitting 200k,but im new to it,just got it yesterday and im gonna wait for few days and try diff trackers with diff number of seeders and leechers before i email them.

ok update

im very pleased with them, only thing is annoying is not always i get good upload speed, but since i dont know much about how these things work and trackers, and its been my first day,i cant really blame it on them, because the problem can be anything, from trackers from who ever leeching from you ,and from seedbox.
but if i would rate xirvik then i will give them 8 out of 10 or you know what lol i give them 9.

What is it with trying to get a seedbox up and running? First rapidpeer ignore me and now these guys are not responding to my emails. I'm getting peeved with the whole thing to be honest. They take your money and then ignore you.

I'm about at my wits end now.

Since I've had my account I've experienced nothing but problems. At first it was an unknown memory issue, which looks to have been solved.

Now I am having an issue with the resellers DNS. The last contact on the issue I had was over 5 hours ago, which is pretty consistent with their normal response time.

My speeds have never been over 2MB/s TOTAL in either direction since my first four hours of use.

My torrents still take forever to rehash. A 10GB Blu-Ray has taken over an hour to check 2.5%.

Email them asking to switch off torrent rehashing after download completion. It's really very slow with shared seedboxes and I don't understand why they have this option turned on by default.
Or just move to a dedi server, yesterday I had been hashing a 15GB torrent pack in about 3-4 minutes with a dedi.

My speeds have never been over 2MB/s TOTAL in either direction since my first four hours of use.

Looks like OVH network outage, too many 10Gbps & 1Gbps servers crowding during weekend. Yesterday I experienced the like probs with dedi seedbox speeds. Sometimes upload had been falling down to 0 but download still worked OK.

They have to sleep at nights, check your post time. Do they claim 24x7 support service?

Thank you, you have responded to my email. Sorry for the harsh nature of my post, but I have recently been stung by another company and I thought I was heading down the same road here. I'm glad that is not the case.

It might help people have more patience when waiting for account creation, if they know when ordering that there are no slots available when they sign up, as anyone reading your site would expect creation within 10 hours of ordering.

I'm presuming the month starts from when you are up and running and not from the moment you pay?

Network outage I can understand. As of today I'm still not getting anything above 3MB/s.

As far as the response, I expect better than 5 hours. Sorry if this seems "unreasonable" to some, but when I'm testing out a new host for a potential group of 100s of clients, reliability and response is incredibly important. Not to mention some of their responses have been 8,10,12+ hours.

I'm still not floored with their hosting. I'm going to ride out my month and write a comprehensive review.

I signed up at Xirvik yesterday (applied for shard seedbox for $34.95 on a monthly contract) at 17.30 GMT but have heard nothing back from them yet, their website states less than 12 hour setup or a week free. All I've had is the paypal receipt to say the money has gone but I've had no conformation or details from the company themselves. Is this normal? I'm a little panicky aster being shafted by both seedbox.cc and rapidpeer.com in just over a month

Your folder names don't have '[' or ']' in them do they? I have problems accessing folders, via ftp, when they have either of those characters in the title, for some reason. Maybe it's related somehow?

That aside, I've not had any problems whatsoever so far and am very pleased. xirvflux, when my paid for month runs out, do I get sent an email asking if I wish to continue with the service?

I'm using shared plan for $4.95/week

It took nearly 11 hours to receive their setup-finishing email.

The download speed is really nice, 6MB/s all the time.

I'm using it in purpose to save my private ratio. Most of the time it's uploading at 1MB/s, sometimes 3MB/s , and I have seen it running 8MB/s for minutes. I have run the seedbox for over 3 days and I uploaded 400GB+.

Its storage for cheapest users is 20GB, and torrent slots is only 3. But I can't ask more for this price on this speed.

If you are trying to save your ratio in a week, it's the best choice.

Hi,
I'd like to ask for one question in here because I can't register in Xirvik forum(I don't know what is the answer to "IM system used in xirvik")
My problem is when I tried to download one of my file with Chinese characters to my home using FTP,it showed empty of the directory or list. But from the page of "xirvik download", I can see the BDMV file within this file.I think it's related to the Chinese characters of the file. So, how can I download or copy this file with FTP program now? Thanks.

Not at all sure of this but i've had similar problems with Russian. Cuteftp lacked language support. In your case Chinese

http://kb.globalscape.com/KnowledgebaseArticle10166.aspx?Keywords=chinese

I had to add a language pack

http://seba.studentenweb.org/thesis/howto-winxp.php

Worked for me but as I said before maybe it is not the same problem.

Thanks for your reply.
I had used CuteFTP and 3D-FTP all had same problem.
I can see the file but when I tried to enter the directory, it showed "no file or directory exit".
So,I can't download or even delete the file.
Now, I use FileZilla and the problem solved.
I think it's due to FileZilla support Chinese characters.
Thanks to all of you.
