I need some advice - I was considering renting a offshore vps (not too expensive) so I could get all my downloading (rapidleech, torrent, usenet, ect.) taken care of securely . . . but then I started thinking why not VPN?
what particularly got me thinking is when I saw the site ivacy.com which charges bout $15/m for unlimited VPN, usenet, and also a bonus megaupload premium account.

So what is better? I know there is also free vpn but I imagine its bad idea to dl copyrighted content through them, and basically the main reason im looking for hosting is so I can have encrypted downloads, which will be a must in college

I've already taken full advantage of usenet, but how exactly am I supposed to download all my rapidshare and megaupload or torrent through usenet:blink:?

besides, I found a decent vps with a good reputation for $10/month

umm, protowall does not encrypt torrents, in fact protowall does absolutely nothing

if you want to torrent securely you need to get a seedbox

go the newsgroups section and you'll learn all about usenet, and no you dont have to pay $30

also i don't think Germany is offshore too if you want real offshore you gotta
find somewhere in NL or Central/South America or even eastern europe or again Asia in some places...

Yeah that's the only thing that I don't like - that's it's in Germany - not truly offshore I kinda wanted something in NL or Malaysia or something

but I'm not too heavy of a user so I think keyweb would be allright
also, there are a ton of resellers of keyweb, such as hosting-ie, that specialize in seedboxes

I read their tos, and from what I could understand, they aren't responsible for the contents of your server. If they don't like what you have, they'll probably just kick you off and keep your account balance, which wouldn't be much in my case. I would think they only report to authorities if you have child porn or something, but that's pretty much universally illegal.

so do you use a vpn or an offshore server? im a little skeptical of vpn, but Im not sure why . . .

and use some offshore semi-dedi for my lil site ;)
but im always on the lookout for sumfin new...

Hey thanks I've actually checked out most of those hosts already, but they are either too expensive or don't suit my needs (not allowed rapidleech ect. on shared hosting)

I think at first I probably would go with keyweb and take my time figuring shit out since I is noob, but do you know if www.santrex.net is any good? I dont like their TOS

Also, do yo know any other russian hosts?

back to the vpn, would you mind telling me which one you use? I have my doubts about vpn because your actually doing all the illegit web stuff from your home connection rather than from somewhere offshore

furthermore I think I would have to configure my firewall for the vpn connection, something that I wouldn't trust myself to do, unlike setting up ftp
