Review: This album was the breakthrough for 28 Days...after commercial success with their EP's...their debut album took off in the Australian charts...A great blend of rap/scratching/rock and a little bit of hip/hop this album had it all...With 3 big singles and a full album worth of quality songs...This was one of the suprises of 2000...and definately still a fav of mine 3 years later...*new album coming hopefully mid next year*...they have also released a follow up album *Stealing Chairs in mid/late 2002*...(if you like upstyledown...i will rip stealing chairs for you guys)...Sadly in 2001 they lost their drummer in a freak accident and has sadly been missed by all...he was so young and such a great guy...Thoughts are always with him and his family...

Score: 4/5

Review: Well what hasn't this man done...released one day later than 28 Days - Upstyledown...even though this album had less success, it put a ordinary guy with a talent into Australia's music spotlight...His blend of soft acoustic rock was an instant success...With two hit songs *Lucky Star and My Way Home* and a lot more to offer...with two more albums following *watching angels mend* and *distant light*...Alex has continued to create beautiful music...if you like listening to soft rock...this is one of the best examples you could ever listen too...

Score: 4.5/5

Review: This album is right up the top with my favourites...The album is full of 12 fun and brilliant songs...Especially the cover of *The Cure's - Boys Don't Cry*...which is right up there with (me first and the gimme gimmes) status...This album was Area 7's finest hour and never got the recognition it deserved...It is a definant must get for all punk/ska fans...They have released only one other album *Say It To My Face* (which i do not have...and if someone has it on soulseek...contact me)...I have listened to it and it is just as great...And they will be releasing a new album sometime next year...

* Another Day

Score: 3/5

Review: Bodyjar are not one of my favourite bands...and this album is right down the bottom of the top 30...Although this album has a few good songs...its sadly not one of the best albums...They are a pretty tight punk rock band...They just don't have the same quality of the american/canadian punk rock bands...None the less this is a pretty alright album...*Fall To The Ground* being an excellent song...They have been around for a while and they have some nice other songs on other albums like *remote controller* and a cover of *The Bangles - Hazy Shade Of Winter*...

Review: Australia's premier rock band in my eyes...These guys have had to live in the shadow of the likes of powderfinger, silverchair, etc and have never reached the level of success they have so deserved...This album was their debut album after years of demo's and EP's...and this album was definately a breakthrough and guided them onto bigger and better things...The album delivers on so many levels with their grunge/punk/rock sound...They are Australia's best live act and it shows with 2 years on non stop touring around the country and the world...(if you like this album i have all of their other albums shared in soulseek)...if you love your rock you will love these guys...

Review: Jebediah were the band that headed the Australian Indie scene this past decade...and this debut album was their greatest piece of work...With an aussie teen anthem *Leaving Home*...a slow sad number *Harpoon* and fun songs like *Teflon*...this album was perfectly balanced...The vocals of kev have been loved or mocked *sometimes it sounds like he has pegged his nose while singing*...but it really goes with the sound of the band...and this was a favourite amongst the Australian teens...With follow up albums *Of Someday Shambles* and *Jebediah (S/T)*...they are still going strong and still continue to grow...

Review: Being one of Australia's biggest indie secrets in the 90's...they finally broke through in 2000 with easily their best piece of work...This album was more rock then their previous releases and it worked wonders for them...This album even had top 50 singles aswell which is amazing for an underground band...Even though this album had really good songs on it...they lack in making a complete album...theres a few songs that i just don't like in there...But it still holds together nicely and is worth a listen if your into indie/rock...nothing that special but still a good album none the less...

Celerystalksme - Thank you for the excellent write-ups. Your effort shows and is greatly appreciated. I've enjoyed reading each and every review, and look forward to hearing many of the albums you have mentioned here.

If anyone reads anything here in the forum in which the member is bashing or bad-mouthing Musicworld by saying it no longer has relevant posts, send them a link to this topic - it will leave the accuser speechless, really. This is Musicworld at its best! Read it and weap, (insert prefix here)world.

15 to go, huh? I can't wait! Keep 'em coming, please. You have expanded my music world, and for that I say 'Thanks'.

Good job Cely...when you say the past decade do you mean 1993-2003 or the 1990's?

I love that George CD...Katie Noonan has one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard.... B)

thank you ella...and i mean from 1993 - 2003...

yes george - polyserena is one of my favourite CD's of all time...

one of my best friends is a singer and she actually sings the song *release* better than katie noonan...*with that long high note*...maybe because i hear my friend sing it live and haven't heard katie sing it live yet...but none the less katie's voice is absolutely amazing...

and yeah im sort of not feeling like shit now...but i still can't find the energy to sit down and write out decent reviews... :)

Well I'm glad....I like most of your pics...not all...but you have a really diverse selection.

Actually, I went back through my CDs and it would appear I really do not have that much recent Aus music at all, except for George and a few others. I went through a long period of not obsessing over music and laid low. Most is older Aus music from the late 80's, early 90's...but I thought 'Honeymoon Is Over' by The Cruel Sea would be one of the finest. I love everything these guys do...they are just brilliant. Dan Brodie and The Broken Arrows are also pretty good, and Ed Kuepper is just one of our undiscovered geniuses.

Have you heard that 'Elixir' stuff that Katie Noonan does?

Have you heard that 'Elixir' stuff that Katie Noonan does?
The cruel sea is great..tex perkins is a true aussie...and he sings what Australia is all about and i have their greatest hits CD...I met him once in a pub last year...he's a great bloke... :)

And yes i have Elixir's CD and i think its really great aswell... :)

Errr....I can pretty much guarantee none of this stuff sounds anything like Men At Work. This is the good Australian music. B)

16. Motor Ace - Shoot This

Released: 2002

Genre: Pop/Rock

Track Listings
1. Carry On
2. Opportunity
3. Pieces
4. Feathers
5. Keeping Secrets
6. Ride The Wave
7. Shoot This
8. For Yourself
9. Where Did You Go
10. When The Day Falls
11. When The Feelings Gone

Standout Tracks
* Carry On
* Opportunity
* Keeping Secrets

Score: 4/5

Review: Motor Ace is another triple J (Australian Radio Station) rock/indie band find...Althogh they were one of the last bands of that style...They still know how to make a good album and some really catchy songs...The 3 singles off this album
were absolutely amazing...*Carry On*, *Pieces* and *Keeping Secrets*...This was motor ace's 2nd and latest album...their debut album *five star laundry* was still really good...but this album took it one step further...There are a couple of
fillers on this album, which isn't unusual...but overall it has a nice softish rock sound to it and is definately worth listening to...

9. Impressed
10. Intuition
11. City
12. Left Of The Middle

Standout Tracks
* Torn
* Big Mistake
* Wishing I Was There

Score: 3.5/5

Review: Natalie was one of the people who used the local Australian soap *Neighbours* to gain popularity and turn it into much more...a decade after Kylie first did it...Natalie was the next big thing...And she did not dissapoint...With the album going no1 on the charts and having one of the highest selling singles by an Australian artist of all time with *Torn*...it was followed up by another 2 huge singles *big mistake* and *wishing I was there*...Her voice quite distinct and having something different then all the popstars at the time...*the sound was a little bit more harder and less dance (which was big at the time)*...which work to her advantage...her follow up album was nowhere near as good...but this album has stood the test of time and one of a very few pop albums in my collection...

Website: www.natalie-imbruglia.co.uk (http://www.natalie-imbruglia.co.uk/)

P.S. I know the site is UK...but she still is an Australian and was living in Australia at the time of this album...it was just after this she moved to UK and put out a shit next album (the UK loves our leftover talent like kylie and danni aswell)...

10. Everywhere I Go
11. Rave Goodbye
12. Disconnected

Standout Tracks
* Just The Thing
* Sound Of Breaking Up
* Everywhere I Go

Score: 3.5/5

Review: Paulmac has to best Australian maker of dance music...and also one of the best sound engineers and someone i look upto in that regard...he was a classically trained graduate of Sydney's Conservatorium (Australia's biggest
conservatorium)...He has worked with all the big names in Australian music (including grinspoon, silverchair and INXS)...This album being the first of his own creations...with some of Australia's top singers lending a hand including *Tex Perkins from The Cruel Sea* and *Abby Dobson from Leonardo's Bride*...This album contained the best dance track of the year *Just The Thing* and a dance track i quite enjoyed *a miracle*...This album will make you get up and dance aswell as soothing you as you sit back and chill out...A nice mix of songs by Paulmac...Even if this is not your cup of tea...you will see how good a sound engineer he is if you listen to silverchair's *neon ballroom* or grinspoon's *easy*...

12. (Return Of) The Electric Horsman

Standout Tracks
* Pick you Up
* D.A.F.
* Living Type

Score: 4.5/5

Review: Well what hasn't been said about powderfinger...these guys are responsible for bringing forward Australian music even further...While people will say it was their album *Internationalist* or *Odyssey Number Five* that made it for them...I believe it is their album before that (their 2nd Album) Doubleallergic that showed their potential the most...With one of my favourite songs of all time *Living Type*...This is where these guys started to grow, their talent was easily spotted and has continued to grow after this album...With their straight forward rock music...they managed to have so many great songs on this album, with variations between soft and hard rock they really made this genre their own in Australia...A great album from a great band and a must listen aswell...

12. Mr. T
13. Just Another Beautiful Story

Standout Tracks
* Black Bugs
* The World Of Sleaze
* Modern Life

Score: 4.5/5

Review: Regurgitator is the mainstream controversy band in Australia...with an R18+ rating for this album (i still got it even though i was 13 at the time...The band is a 3 piece out of my hometown *brisbane*...their music has a nice balnce or rock, pop and dance...most of all their music is fun and some of their songs can bring a smile to your face while your feeling your lowest (especially *The World Of Sleaze*)...The scary thing is kids still wanted this album because of the few
*singles* off this album...but the other songs had a bit to much bad language to keep it below R18+ (something i've always been planning to do...just to f*ck over the Australian Music Industry)...But i advise you get this album even though the
music is pretty simple...its still a brilliant album and one that continues to play in my stereo still after 6 years...

Website: www.regurgitator.net (http://www.regurgitator.net/)

The next 5 will up sometime in the next 3 days...depending on what happens to me over that period...anyways hope you guys like reading these...and hope you like the music i am reviewing...

10. Cicada
11. Findaway

Standout Songs
* Tomorrow
* Pure Massacre
* Suicidal Dream

Score: 4.5/5

Review: Silverchair is one of the most recognisable bands Australia has produced...Silverchair beginning as those 14 year olds from newcaslte who broke through thanks to triple j *Australia's Best National Radio Station*...Their single *tomorrow* reaching no1 on Australian charts with ease and being the anthem of 1995...This album was also an instant no1 on the australian charts...and produced an album that teenagers of the time needed (i was only 11 at the time...but already into nirvana and the offspring)...In most people's opinions...this album could never be topped by silverchair let alone any other band...with hard crunching numbers *Israeli's Son* and *Pure Massacre* aswell as the absolutely beautiful and often acousticly played *suicidal dream*...This album had it all...and is up their in all time greats...

Score: 3.5/5

Review: Something for kate is a nice little 3 piece who play wonderful soft rock...They stayed in the Australian underground for a while..until triple j once again rescued an Aussie band from oblivion...And they have repayed them greatfully for the support...This album was their second album and greatly approved upon their first effort...with songs such as *electricity* and *Whatever You Want* being heard all over Australia...the band finally got all the support they deserved...They are a great live band aswell and i might be seeing them in 2 days if i have the money...this band is well worth a listen...

Review: Another teenage band to make it in Australia...I actually know a couple of the guys in this band and have been big fans of them ever since we were in high school...winning the local bands competitions...and eventually making it to triple j...these guys have had all the breaks *which are hard to come by in the Australian music scene*...With tracks from the ablum such as *sunken eyes* and *make you feel* it was easy to tell these guys are gonna breakthrough...with a new single just out and an album in the coming months...these guys look like an exiciting prospect...This album is really heavy and will have you jumping up and down and all around...a very nice piece of work and a good all round album especially for a debut...

Review: The band i have had huge raps on ever since they released their EP back in early 2002...These guys have what it takes to be up their in the all time greats of Australian music...Their sharp, chrisp metal music have made them a favourite
amongst both peers, fans and also critics *amazingly (Australian artists never get that much press)...Anyways with their debut EP being top notch...much was expected from this band and they did deliver...With the songs being sung with so much power and passion...you can tell these guys are dedicated to their
music...Songs such as *Crave* and *A.D* show they know how to do what they love...a very nice album with lots of brilliance...

* Down Again
* Now and Then
* Shut My Eyes

Score: 5/5

Review: The Superjesus are another band who deserve respect and really should of been heard overseas in their time...This album is another one of the class of 98...Such a great year for Australian music...And this album was no different...Another band who had EP's before their album and decided to release the debut album in 1998...This was up their with The Living End's album...The band is led by a female singer (the rest of the band is male) and has a brilliant rock sound to it...This is the best piece of The Superjesus's work..with the standout songs of *Down Again* and *Now And Then*...it made this album a highlight of 1998...a very hard year to breakthrough with the amount of talent in that year...They managed to pull it off with an excellent album...another must have album...

Review: The Whitlams are a true aussie band...This their 2nd album put this band up there with the greats at the time...winning countless awards...and having the no1 song of 1997 with *No Aphrodisiac*...The band has a nice blend of both rock and pop and also make very catchy tunes...This was the album that started the Australian dominance in the charts *at the time filled with american boy bands and pop princesses and mini divas*...this started Australian music's climb back to the top of the charts...Other than the groundbreaking *No Aphrodisiac*, a couple of other nice tunes were *Love Is Everywhere* and *Band On Every Corner*...A nice album from a great band...

Review: What a way to end this top 30...Australia's favourite sons, TISM...Short for *This Is Serious Mum*...These guys were the original Mr Controversies...With their outrageous stage shows and their unbelievable lyrics and songs...Their music is a mix of everything rolled into one and simply can only be put under the Alternitive banner...These guys can put a smile on your face when your down...some of their lyrics are absolutely classic...*I Might Be Cunt, But I'm Not A Fucking Cunt* is pretty much my anthem and is such a great song both lyrically and musically...These guys have a huge following and are quite nice guys...This album is the best of their long career...I advise you to have a TISM album in your collection...a great band with this being their best offering...

Well guys n gurls that brings the top 30 to an end...And it was a pleasure to bring this music to you...Anyways i have a few things to say in ending off this top 30...

Just thought I'd post my favourite Aussie album. Dig ~~ Deeper. 1994, so just fits in with Celers.

http://www.uploadit.org/files/171003-dig.jpg

Tracks.
1. Two way dreamtime
2. Medium rare
3. The favourite
4. D.N.A.
5. Pythonicity
6. Shelflife
7. Hip replacement
8. Suffer the children
9. Gil
10. The Dig theme
11. The den
12. Terrified from dizzy heights
13. Re-invent yourself
14. Inner blue funk

Dig are a jazz oriented funky rock outfit, easy to listen to, and very good musicians. I don't know what they are doing now, or if they are still together. This album is well worth a listen.
