I'm nearing the end of Stephen King's The Dark Tower vol. 7 - The Dark Tower.
I was a little annoyed when vol.5 (Wolves of the Calla) veered off almost uncontrollably into ridiculousness. Authors putting their own books into their own books is always a shite idea, but then suggesting I suspend belief over deadly plate-throwing women? Come ON!
In vol. 6 (Song of Suzannah) King put himself in there as a central character and I didn't like the book at all because of it.
Vol. 7 is a big improvement over the last two but I get the impression King has spent his effort on finishing the series before he either goes blind or gets run over properly. The result is that a great story has deteriorated somewhat.
These last three installments have been a disappointment for me, a huge SK fan.

Hitler's War - David Irving (Excellent!)
Do you read lots of books by holocaust deniers? :ermm:
No, but I am indeed reading this book soley because of his status as a Holocaust Denier. I want to know what this man could have possibly written to be sentenced to three years in jail. Why listen to biased news sources when I can read it straight from the horse's mouth and form my own opinions? It's like asking the Catholic Church if The Da Vinci Code is a good book or not. I may be ~200 pages into Hitler's War, but I can already see if is a far better written and sourced book than great's like Shirer's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Your statement bothers me because you seem to act like I'm doing something questionable or wrong. I was brought up to hear both sides of an argument and not form a biased opinion based on my personal beliefs. If I did I'd probably be a Bush supporter!

Don't take offence, I was just seeing why you were reading that book in my own abrasive style. I would probably read some of his work if I had the chance for much the same reasons. I've read Shirer's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich which I enjoyed and I have read that Irving, whilst having questionable politics, is very knowledgable in his field.
On topic: I am currently reading The Longman Anthology of Short Fiction. As the book is 2000 pages long it should take me a while to finish this one.

Yes, but now you know all about the Third Reich.
There are others you could read for perspective, but Shirer kinda wrote the Bible, there.

i just started on the audio book version of the first book of the Wheel of Time series.
I was apprehensive about going through this format, as i'm not used to listening to a novel being read out to me in this manner, but i have to say that i was quite surprised by how well i was able to get the picture of the story in my head, and it made a GREAT companion while driving (i travel between the U.S and Canada alot) so my 7 hour drive didn't feel like it.
My only complaint would be that it was kinda weird listening to the male reader doing the female parts. It was kinda weird, having drummed up the image of a beautiful woman, only to hear a voice which made it sound like she was a transvestite. all in all though, it's been a great listen so far and i look forward to hearing the other books. plus, the reader is going to switch to a female in later parts so i look forward to that. I watch anime from time to time, so many of the male leads are read by females so i hope it'll be a similar experience.

THE POPE'S CEILING- Ross King
"Recounts the four extraordinary years Michelangelo spent laboring over the vast ceiling...
Battling against ill health, financial difficulties, domestic problems, the pope's impatience, and a bitter rivalry with the brilliant young painter Raphael, Michelangelo creates scenes so beautiful that they are considered to be among the greatest masterpieces of all time. A panorama of illustrious figures converged around the creation of this masterful work- from the great Dutch scholar Erasmus to the young Martin Luther King- Ross skillfully weaves them through his compelling historical narrative, offering uncommon insight into the intersection of art and history."
Sweeet reading for art lovers...
I have read all of above mentioned Stephen King books. The GUNSLINGER is especially good.
As with most of his books, he weaves some of his key characters ("*a*kin **de" and tec..) from other novels and short stories (The STAND, EYES of the DRAGON, etc..) into this one as well.

Currently reading "Terminal Man" by Michael Crichton.
It's a fictional story about a man who gets little wires put in his head to stop him from having seizures and attacking people. It was written a long time ago, so it supposed to be real sci-fi and out there, but its not so strange to the people of our time. Not my favorite book so far, but i would recommend it.

Lord Hornblower, by CS Forester... I believe it's an english classic, but as a french, I just discovered Hornblower a couple of months ago... I love these books and I'm currently reading all of them... (seing the tyranny of Bonaparte from the point of view of a Royal Navy officer of this time, spending his time to sink french ships is part of the fun, and the high adventure and ingenuity of the captain makes the rest).

Welcome to our French minority...people will tell you I am anti-French because I do not respect Chirac.
I don't respect Chirac, 'tis true, but I sincerely welcome our French contingent; don't let anyone tell you otherwise. :)
I'm currently reading World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by SNL writer Max Brooks.

"The Return of the Prodigal Son" Henri J. M. Nouwen
Author shares insight gained into self while sitting and staring at Rembrandt's painting of the same name.
He "probes the several movements of the parable."
