Is it dangerous joining forums like this? Where "they" might come and get the userlist and track us down and raid our homes and take our computers and smash our disks and freak out our families and invade our privacy, etc., etc.?

Is it dangerous to even visit a web page that talks about P2P or DVD copy?

What is happening on the scene?

It has much changed since 2003. Afterdawn has gone down, essentially, stripped of its valuable software.

That's why I've come back here. That's what's on my mind. I want to know how safe we are, what's going on, who's aware, who's got protection and advice for us.

I hope to find answers in these forums.

I think you're worrying too much, mate.

There is a program called peerguardian (most likely you're aware of this) that you can use if you're worried. I don't use it and haven't had any trouble in years of downloading movies and music.

I think the downloading of older movies (ie the ones not in the cinema nor the newer release dvd rentals) is practically tolerated and expected, newer releases tend to garner more attention from the authorities.

I'll carry on downloading them from private trackers and newsgroups but if you avoid them, I'm almost certain that you'll be fine :)

Just a quick post to stop it reminding me every time I log on that I haven't posted yet!
I'm quite new to torrents, use Azureus which I find works OK, and download mainly from UKNova, Torrentit and Demonoid.
A lot of the other torrent sites I find seem quite specialized, but I'm always on the lookout for new sites that have plenty of choice in middle of the road stuff like these three do.
btw I can't find a "New posts since last visit" button - have I missed it? What I'm doing now is clicking on the New Posts label at the top, and then reading down till it looks familiar!
Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you all get up to.
