" The UK will begin cutting off persistent file sharers beginning April 2010.

Wednesday Lord Mandelson, the British Secretary of State for Business, said that "persistent offenders" will be kicked off the Internet beginning April 2010. The announcement came during the government's digital creative industries conference, saying that the days of "consequence-fee" illegal file sharing are over.

However, the consequence won't be an immediate disconnection. According to Lord Mandelson, the technical measures to ban file sharers will be the government's last resort. The Guardian reports that persistent file sharers will receive two warning letters, but if file sharing has not dropped by at least 70-percent by April 2010, the offending parties will be informed of the termination and be given a chance to make an appeal.

"I have no expectation of mass suspensions resulting," he said. Although the termination date is set for April 2010, the actual process may be introduced three months later, July 2010. The government plans to implement the new anti-piracy strategy in the digital economy bill in late November, however ISPs are already threatening to launch legal action if the government follows through with its plan.

"The approach is based on the principle of 'guilty until proven innocent' and substitutes proper judicial process for a kangaroo court," said Andrew Heaney, the executive director of strategy and regulation at TalkTalk. "We know this approach will lead to wrongful accusations." TalkTalk said that disconnecting consumers infringes upon human rights, and is considered as "extra-judicial technical measures." "

What we need to counter this is TENS of THOUSANDS of complaints from little old ladies, mayors, governors, police, firemen, teachers, social workers, anyone with credibility- who have been FALSELY accused and cut off.

Sure would be a shame if some of these people were found falsely accused... :shifty:
