Seems like the max option in the old thread was getting the large majority of the votes. Here's an updated poll for the iPod/FLAC generation

Feel free to include the total playtime/ total songs in your post.

can't be arsed to check the total playtime...but the number of files is 6500 at ~35gb

Skiz

278 GB.

22,528 music files in either flac or mp3. Most mp3 files are V0 but nothing below 192 kbps.

I also have ~50 FLAC soundboard bootlegs for my favorite artists but can't be arsed to count those. Some are transcoded into v0 and added to iTunes. Alot of misc unsorted mp3 albums/songs not on iTunes as well.

Most of my songs are v0/v2, and if not then something over 192 unless it's unavailable that high.

Its a tricky question. Because I have mp3 music on my laptops thats close to 100 Gb but I keep lossless (flac) files in back up drive thats over 250 gb.

Nedless for me to have anymore after spotify and wimp came out :)

I haven't tried Wimp, but Grooveshark > Spotify for me.

Holypanzer
12-11-2009, 05:21 PM
Spotify is much faster than grooveshark for me. Been trying it for some mins now only tho. Looks nice and found some songs I didn't find on spotify. Still prefer spotify tho, maybe grooveshark for songs that isn't on spotify is a good idea.

anon
12-11-2009, 05:25 PM
Yes, Grooveshark has a much larger music collection. I found a lot of tracks that weren't on Spotify back when I tested it.

Loading time depends (filesize perhaps?). Popular music finishes downloading in about 5 seconds here. Obscure tracks take a lot more.

Holypanzer
12-12-2009, 02:24 AM
Do you know if its possible to scrobble with last.fm from Grooveshark? Haven't found a way so far :(

anon
12-12-2009, 04:19 PM
I'm not sure, I have never used Last.fm so I have just learnt what scrobbling is

Grooveshark offers a paid service. If you can't find that anywhere in the free version, you probably have to be a VIP to use it (if available).

I used to have a lot more music, but ultimately it started taking too much space on my external hard drive, so I deleted some that I didn't really like. I have about 150 GB now, and I don't think I'll need more. I guess a lot of people hoard music but never really listen to any of it. :)

I really need to go through these folders. There's a lot of Discography's I've uploaded because of requests on trackers and I always just keep them after seeding even if it's nothing of interest to me. Many of them being Flac. My actual collection of music I enjoy would be under 80GB's I believe.

21GB in my music folder at the moment. There are more GBs over my other drives. I burn albums to CDs from time to time to avoid running out of space.

Ironically, I would later end up copying them back from those CDs after purchasing a 4 TB external disk.

Anyway, I have several music folders on different places so it's tough to give an exact size, but the biggest one has 154 GB. Most of it MP3, I don't download lossless unless it's the only version available, since the quality difference is unnoticeable to me and my $10 portable music player can't do FLAC :smilie4:

It's over 200GB now. Mostly MP3. You can't really tell the difference unless you are listening to them on high-end equipment (and comparing them). VBR or 320 for most. Some of the older stuff might be 192.

361GB here. Mostly full albums - hardly any random single songs.

Surprised myself to find 109GB in the music folder. Only using 1/3,211th of the available space.

Streaming and youtube kinda killed having music. I almost thought about buying some CDs today just for nostalgia!

Total space occupied:
10.980.778.890 bytes in 2.180 file(s),
in 97 directories

(= 10.723.416k, 10.472M, 10G)

Actual space used (considering cluster size)
on source drive: 10.985.267.200 Bytes

Actually a little more, if we consider several other folders with single tracks lying around. Used to have around half a terabyte, but I went on a deletion rampage early this year... 95% of it had never been listened to more than once anyway.

What is different in music streaming over tv/movie streaming?

TV and movies have people inside them, I suppose?
