I saw it yesterday at an IMAX 3-D theater.

It's an astounding visual experience that more than compensated for the retarded plot and dialogue.

Seriously, if you can't see it in 3-D IMAX, don't bother...the visuals are the only thing Avatar has going for it.

If you can get to an IMAX...well, you're in for a hell of a ride.
There are several big setpiece scenes that will literally take your breath away (and maybe make you nauseous)...the technology really is as good as Cameron has been claiming.

By way of comparison...2012 is equally as stupid plot-wise as Avatar but no where near as visually arresting.
I left 2012 feeling cheated and Avatar exhilarated.

It's too bad that Cameron allowed the tech to overwhelm the story but in this first effort, I'll overlook it.

Highly recommended, with reservations.

it's a 10 year/200 million dollar cartoon, which for that kind of money I want a cheeseburger and a magical unicorn with my viewing.

i quoted charlie the unicorn and ate at macdonals beforehand- it made the avatar experience better. Not that it is a bad film, but it is a tad long.

I saw avatar in 3D yesterday too. i thought that it was going to be all action like transformers. The movie had a pretty good story line I was suprised and for the 300 + million dollar budget, the most expensive film produced to this day, it had know room to flop. I would give it an 8/10.

it's got story, never mind the ppl who think different. i liked it. the 2.5 hours went by super fast. some ppl relate to this film by saying it reminded them of dances with wolves. i haven't seen that film in a long while, so i'll say it reminded me of tom cruises movie the last samurai in a way. lots of pretty shit to look at. last 20 mins is blown out combat and the previous 2 hours is all about learning the new world and exploration. seems they will continue with a sequel. will watch it again. 9/10

Well, me and my brother went to see it today at one of our local cinemas (Cinepolis Rio (http://www.cinepolis.com.mx/indexmx.asp)), which is playing the movie in RealD,
we had never seen one of these movies with this new 3D system; we both thought it was Awesome! great experience well wort it.

Ah fuck do you have to wear the 3d glasses and listen to pukes that sat thru two viewings ? Eat 4 dollar popcorn and hold my beer pee for three hours ... give me a dvdr 5 torrent please lord .Nah the 3D glasses are not that bad, at least it's not the ones with blue & red, that becomes annoying after a few minutes.
And I did have to go pee a couple of times, we bought really big Cokes.

good movie, I pay 2 dollar in my cinema
I paid $6 USDlls, and I got to keep the glasses, sone guys in front of my told the guy who was collecting 'em if they could keep it and he said 'sure, just put them in your pocket on your way out', lol I know they're useless but hell, they charged me good for the tixs and food :whistling

Yeah I agree, nice good old classic story, doesn't get old; and I guess the two hour introduction to Pandora is all right,
since for sure this is only the first movie in a trilogy, besides, it was in 3D awesomeness! so 9/10 seems reasonable, though I gave it 9.5 coming out of the theater.

I don't know about a great movie in terms of plot. If Jurassic Park, Pocahantas, and Star Trek had a baby, there you go. But I saw it in Imax 3D and every frame was a piece of art. To call it visually stunning would be a massive understatement. Very much worth seeing.

One of the best cinematic experiences i've ever had, although the same cant be said about the predictable story. But Cameron's intention was to bring back audiences in the multiplexes so he's done that emphatically. I still think T2 is his best film, actually its the best action film i've ever seen.

IdolEyes787
02-12-2010, 03:27 AM
Yes it compares well to Titanic .Like that movie a marvelously overblown technical achievement that strikes a resonant emotional cord in the collective film going psyche while having amazingly little actual substance.

This is the headline review on IMDB "praising" it
"Avatar combines parts of Pocahontas and Braveheart with a liberal dose of Space Marines into an epic whole that takes nearly three full hours to unfold. We could criticise that length, the weak story and the hammy dialogue. We could attack its thinly-veiled ecological message or the frankly bizarre spirituality in its second half but honestly nothing can spoil the experience while you are enveloped in...."

No the fact that the masses can be dazzled by technology and loud noises was proven by Micheal Bay years ago.

If you are talking about 3D G-Force was 3D ffs.

The 3D technology should be enough to lure people back to the isles of the local cinemas.

At least until 3D TV becomes the norm so 10 years tops..In the meantime the film industry better hurry up and get to work on holographic imagery because clearly (The Hurt Locker $26,500,000 worldwide , Avatar $2,668,000,000) simply being the better film doesn't cut it.

Just a question, can the 3d effect be done @ home? (E.G. Home cinema) or only in theaters?

IdolEyes787
04-07-2010, 11:59 PM
If you are asking if you can presently pick up a copy of Avatar in 3D and watch it without a special set though then the answer is no.

Right now the 3D sets that are on the market use the same type of passive glass system that requires the same type of polarized glasses you get in the movie theaters.
The polarization filters out some of the image on each lens so you get the illusion of 3 dimensionality.
The drawback of course is with the glasses the picture appears blurry as hell.

There are other technology in the works that either won't require the glasses or alternately will put as the technology in the glasses and won't distort the picture for anyone watching without a pair.

Rart
04-08-2010, 12:38 AM
Ok sorry but I have read through that post about 5 times slowly and still can't quite understand it (probably cause "glass" can reference many different things).

Do you mean that you can't get the same effect from Avatar without owning a TV that uses a special kind of glass screen that emanates the effect? Or that you need a different set of 3D glasses (That go on your eyes) that aren't regularly available?

IdolEyes787
04-08-2010, 01:49 AM

Cha-ching is right.....just more things to buy, more money to spend, more people to get rich besides me......

Gets worse....Avatar Bluray is using BD+ 5 Protection.....might actually have to buy the bluray as it could take another month before it releases on any trackers. Here's the message from Slysoft ANYDVDHD software developer in their forums:

Quote:
Originally Posted by JPeterson View Post

bd+ 4: appeared Feb 2009, circumvented Mar 2009

So a reasonable ETA may be at least one month.
So (IF there really is such a thing as a "new" BD+ protection), the clock starts ticking, when I have the disc in my hands. Which will be release date + the usual 1-2 weeks shipping time to Antigua.

Also, I don't handle pressure very well, so add another week for each time I'm being asked "when will it be done".
And I already have a couple of those in my PM (despite my signature telling people to not PM me).

My answer therefore will be, as usual: February.
(you pick the year )

A revolutionary movie, which teaches us a lot about the latest animation technologies,

Its so educational because its a controlled science experiment, I guess they intentionally choose a very :shit: script and a very very :shit: storyline, just to see what the technology is capable without other factors. Keeping in mind result is also :shit:, I guess its not really that capable.

Avatar was pretty unimaginative. Nothing special.

IMHO, Great graphic for this movie but weak plot. I imagine if he explore deeper bad and good sides from both human and alien race. It would be epic.

Actually he kinda wasted the technology with same old story. FYI, I think Pirates 1 better than both the sequel even though both sequel has much more CG effects.

I'll give him a chance for a sequel like Terminator 2 case.

It's funny to read something like this:

Piling On Avatar - Overcoming Bias by Robin Hanson (http://www.overcomingbias.com/2010/05/piling-on-avatar.html)

I expected much, much more from this movie and Cameron, especially since he likes to say he worked a decade on this movie, you'd expect a better story. Effects were amazing, but that's about it in this movie.

I watched the movie both in 2d and in 3d however didnt really get what the hype was all about in 3d. I mean apart from the 'deeva' nothing else was really 3d. Plus with the blurry content it wasnt really an enjoyable experience.

The movie however was good....but not excellent

I saw this movie in theaters with the 3D version and it was off the hook. The effects were amazing and it will be one of my all time favorites. I can't wait to get a copy of this in 3D.

I usually wonder what would people really think about this movie, if there wasn't so much so called experts out there calling it revolutionary.

Tell me what is so new? What is the revolution? Yes, I seen it 3D and I got bit of pleasure from the effects. But its just another movie pushing the limits little bit farther, not a revolution.
