Just so you know, some of the top dc++ hubs
require like 1TB share and 1Mbps min up speed to only get in, if you got lucky on getting invited.....

still looking for a nice rar hub have 500gb+ share of scene releases, got a nice archive and have 1mbit upload PM me, also could link a 1000mbit box with over 2tb+ of scene releases if you no a client that can be run in debian (no wine or anything)

Which type of scene releases you have?? It could be interesting for me if you have Appz, Games, or other material but movies no, because don´t like to see enligsh movies.

XVID (english and german), DVDR, TV, TV-SE, TV-NL, MP3, XXX, 0DAY... i only buy games for xbox 360 so sorry no games at all.

i can always build the archive up on my box with games and HD stuff :P

It ain't dead, but not too many users will come here and say that. Why would they. Let the MPAA and the RIAA and the other anti-piracy authorities target the other filesharing methods, like BT and the Usenet. The ones that aren't dead and used by the masses.

DC++ still thrives, but you have to know your way around and have a big fat pipe :)

DC is well suited to a closed private network, such as university LAN, but let outsiders in, and you could be asking for trouble. Police like to infiltrate and bust DC hubs, and arrest the peers as well as the server operator. You can bet that getting caught sharing a full hard disk of warez is not going to look good in court in front of a judge.

That reason alone makes Bittorrent is a much safer choice in P2P.

Our school has ~ a PB of stuff on their hub. Most of the stuff is dupe content though, so it's a bit misleading. Still, it's a nice resource for pretty much everything except music since the vast majority of the other content is scene sourced.

I'd rather not say. I keep my real life and torrenting/filesharing as separate as possible. There are several reasons why torrenting is still a better idea in my current situation, notably off campus speeds, much better pre-times (the hub's suppliers, such as they are, usually suck hard), better labelling (people have a habit of renaming scene stuff so it's impossible to tell what a file is or where it came from at a glance), etc.

Not to mention the fact that the people who have multi-TB shares are often mirroring each other and are rather disorganized, leading to dupe files even within their own shares. Some people just uselessly hoard content and never consume it I guess :lol:

You make it sound like it's impossible... back when I was in residence in my freshman year (that was when I primarily used it, since the internal 100Mbit connections make speeds awesome) I was sharing ~2-3TB of stuff alone, and I wasn't even in the top 10 shares. Add a few thousand more students and it's not too hard to fill up. I used to fill music requests from our request/release bot using What.cd as well. Now it's only really practical if I'm spending the day in the library or a computer lab. If you're connecting from off-campus you have to get your IP range whitelisted or tunnel through a computer on-campus, and speeds aren't really great.

A petabyte might seem like a lot on DC, but many people are going to be sharing the same files. On any P2P network, it seems that it's only ever a few people that introduce new material, that everyone else then copies from.

A petabyte still means the userbase is large. For example, if each person in a school has a 1tb HDD, that means at least 1000 users are using the hub at any one point. That's a lot by my standards, even counting dupes.
