Can you run .tar files on windows? or is it just for linux? Im downloading the 1.36GB half life beta now, but it's a .tar file. Should I just cancel it?

I think so, I saw it being advertised on a IRC channel, and every one seems to trust IRC to never hold fakes... or rarely.

yeah but if you stick to the right channels and use your brain, its pretty hard to get one, I remember the IRC viruses they where easy to spot.

I don't know how my friend got the virus.. I wonder.
I think he may have autosend or whatever on, where he will automaticaly download what people are attempting to send to him.

Arent you guys being a tad bit to paranoid, I've downloaded movies, games and apps from IRC not been hit by a virus, comes down to common sence and luck.
