Hello,

Can anybody tell me a newsreader which has HTTP proxy support.
OS doesn't matter..i am willing to try it on both windows and linux.

Newzleecher in windows is nice but it has just SOCKS support.

Thanks

er, how would you use a port80 proxy on an nntp port?

No you misunderstood.
I am talking about proxy.

The same way you use http proxy in firefox but can visit any other port using firefox.
A proxy is just a middle-man.
(In my case it is a college firewall without which i am unable to access internet)

Yeah, but http proxies can't deal with ports other than port 80. You'd need them to provide a port forwarding service for you and none do that afaik. There might be a usenet provider out there that supplies a feed on port 80, but even then I don't think a server running glype or phproxy would be able to deal with the protocol as they are very http focused.

even with a socks proxy, it would be bad form to run usenet through it unless you were paying a premium for it. Have you considered a VPN like https://www.relakks.com/?cid=gb ?

Http proxy allows any traffic buddy.
You can use putty to tunnel SSH sessions through http proxy.
I have used "proxifier" program to myself run grabit and newsleecher from behind proxy.I am just asking an application with proxy support as it will be so much better and less cumbersome.

You can use putty to ssh to the proxy, but all that would do is secure the link between you and the proxy. Why would you then need specific http proxy support for your newsreader, you'd be connecting to putty on localhost and putty would be connecting to the proxy.

Anyways, Alt-Binz in another client that has proxy support.

I'm surprised that Newsleecher supports SOCKS proxies, but not HTTP proxies yet. It seemed that most P2P clients and newsreaders (those under continuous development) added HTTP proxy support about 5 or so years ago. Windows clients Newsbin Pro, Usenet Explorer and Alt Binz have HTTP proxy settings. I would assume that Sabnzbd probably also does. There are also software applications available that will add SOCKS/HTTP proxy support for any web clients that lack that capability (which was virtually all P2P clients released in the early 2000s). I have not used any in years, so I can't recommend anything current.

Newsbin pro and Sab don't even have Socks support.
