So I just stumbled upon this altopia.com website.
I was amazed when I see their retention: "Multi-part binaries larger than 20 parts: 7.8 days" They probably haven't noticed that there is something called Astraweb.
Anyway, there must be a reason why this website is mentioned on wikipedia on the usenet page? Am I missing something here ? Enlighten me plz.

Since they've not participated in the "retention wars" of recent years, Altopia could be considered a niche provider these days, useful mainly for text and single-part binaries such as pictures - not useful for downloading movies and other big files since their multipart binary retention is only a week. The company was one of the first pay-providers to emerge, and has built a loyal following over the years. Altopia has always been the provider of choice for usenet trolls, flooders, and overall miscreants who get kicked off other usenet providers, especially ISPs -- most of which tend to have a low tolerance for bad behavior. Aside from commercial spammers, Altopia never kicks anyone off their service, no matter how many complaints they might receive about a user's online behavior. In keeping with their 'anything goes' policy, it has also been rumored that they had no qualms with carrying childporn groups.
