I just ran a program called Music Brainz which renamed all my music files and put them in mixed up directories. Is there anyway to reset my system to what it was say 2 hours ago. anything of that sort? Thanks.. im really desperate as I lost my entire mp3 collection pretty much.

No, there is no system restore in 2k. Even if there was, it wouldn't help your problem. I recommend musicmatch jukebox for sorting out your id tags and file names. It's great at that.

Symantec Goback ?

But if you haven't already got it, it's too late now.

What exactly happened? I don't quite understand you situation.

I'd be gutted if anything happened to my mp3 collection, that's why it's backed up on 30+cd's. Sorry to hear of your predicament.

Even if you had XP (or ME) & System Restore, it wouldn't fix your mp3 files.

System Restore makes no changes to your personal data files such as documents, drawings, or e-mail. It actively monitors changes to your system and to certain application files, and automatically creates easily identifiable restore points. Windows XP creates these restore points once each day by default, as well as at the time of significant system events such as application or device driver installation. You can also create and name your own restore points at any time. System Restore does not monitor changes to or recover your personal data files.

bit of a long shot, but you could search your main music directory,(the one with all the folders in it) use the Advanced search menu and select "mp3" as the file type and then arrange the mp3's by Creation Date (can't use modified because it will use the date and time that Music Brainz messed it up). It should help you organise them a little at least, because the creation date will be whenever the file finished downloading, so if you use the Search function in windows you can group together those made in the same day/hour etc.

Not perfect, but it might help even a little.
