Hello, i need stable linux (Ubuntu Desktop 8.04) usenet client who support this:

- automatic PAR checking and repairing if needed
- automatic loading of nzb files from folder

Is there any client who support that? And tutorial how to install it... Thanks a lot...

I have been using sabnzbd 0.4.12 in windows, and so far I wouldn't trade it for anything.
Only the supersearch feature on newsleecher is superior so far.

I use nzbget. It does parity check, and checks folders. I tried hellanzb before but found nzb to be alot faster and more straightforward to use. Nzbget is written in c++ while hellanzb is written in python.

Downside is you have to compile it yourself, but there is a straightforward guide on the projects homepage.

hellanzb does both of those things. Its incredibly stable, if you really need a gui sabanzb is out there. Its not much of a gui, though. Only use it if you have a true crippling fear of the terminal.

How stable is Linux?
Mostly it depends on your hardware configuration. If you have a basic machine without much ram, a slow processor or small disk, then you will find ubuntu can still perform well compared to XP.

My kit is 256MB memory, 800MZ processor and 20Gb disk. I've now loaded 7.0.4 and now i can run 4 virtual desktops with 3-4 programs open on each desk. I love it because it's so stable, but have had no success getting multi-media to work yet. So MP3, music and DVD's are not there yet for me as it requires loading several other bits and pieces from medibuntu sites.

Ubuntu is a great distro for beginners, however it will be a bitch if you run resource intensive apps. Have a look at the low-end distro's like: DSL, Xubuntu, Puppy, SLAX and pretty much any Slackware-based distro.

I recommend openSUSE as well, because it runs far smoother than Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 7.0.4 is very old, Ubuntu, like many other distro's have updates every 6-12mnths. Ubuntu is up to 9.10 now. The install has changed from the cli based setup to a gui based one. You can still get the Alternate iso which is text based (cli).

Is that box you're using your main box or just your download box? If it was me I'd use it as a download box and just run nothing but a usenet client w/ RSS feed.

EDIT: SABnzbd isnt very hungry if you use a lightweight browser or a lightweight front end.

i have vrs from keyweb. and i installed sabnzbd but its not working
