Why don't you use the Rapidshare manager that the site offers? It's pretty cool and fully compatible with their links. I just don't like the limitation of download sessions.

Try JDownloader, It should work for you.

I have a Premium account and tried adding an S after "http", but got redirected to a non-SSL address. Tried adding the S there too and it timed out, so I don't know if it's possible.

https://ssl.rapidshare.com/cgi-bin/collectorszone.cgi

https://ssl.rapidshare.com/premiumzone.html

How does that let you download the files over SSL?

By altering the url from
http://rapidshare.com/files/337452309/awesome.png.html
to
https://ssl.rapidshare.com/files/337452309/awesome.png.html

not working i guess

By altering the url

I tried that but it didn't work - I'd get redirected to a non-SSL direct download link. :(

I'd say no, but if what you need is bypassing filters, have a look at this:

Then I guess your only choice is to buy an account on a VPN service, or use a free one if you have a Premium RS account.
