Will it idle?
Will it rev in neutral?
Did it just screw up all at once or has it slowly been getting crappier?

Is it getting fuel?
Spark?

screwed up all at once - but i don't take care of it - just put gas in it and drive. i think the last oil change i had was like a year ago? but i do put more oil in it, i checked that and it's okay fer now.

it idles, it's when i take off that it friggin kills on me - piece o shit - i thought honda's were supposed 2 run 4ever!

When it dies, if you let it sit for a bit will she restart?

clocker man, i dunno! i'm a computer guy, not a car guy - all i know is it's broken! :D

it's a stick, and will only take off if i rev the hell outta it and then let off the clutch slowly - then when i shift 2 second, it just friggin chugs on me. i was at a 4 way stop 2day and it was my turn, took me like 30 seconds 2 get around the corner, i felt like a FOOL. everyone there just waitin on my dumbass.

it restarts right after it kills.

That's not true.
You probably know more than you think, you just don't know how to start eliminating the variables.
It's really not that different than trying to diagnose a PC problem.

The problem with your car ( or any car from that era) is that it is computer controlled and there are only a few things that you can diagnose without hooking to a monitor.

You could just have a clogged/blocked fuel filter or line. Such a problem would allow the car to idle, maybe even rev up in neutral, but it would die under load (ie-in gear). After a few minutes, fuel pressure would build up again and the car would start.

You live in the Uk dont you ? if so I will come over and help you fix it ,provided we can run someone over with it.

EDIT:ok now that I have read over your thread more carefully I see you live in the states ,which does me no good in this hit and run thing I wanted to do.
But I think I know your prob.
It sounds like an air flow problem combined with the carb.

That can't be... It's fuel injected.

Sounds like your Honda Civic has just had its timing belt jump a notch. When was the last time that belt was serviced?

Yup, in fact I do. It depends on what year it is. I have a 1.5 liter 16 valve for '88 to '91.

Try an American car next time, that is, if you are from America. Parts are cheaper and readily available.

Parts aren't usually the biggest part of a repair bill. It's the labor that will kill you...

American car parts are expensive too. The old idea that you could get them cheaper is no longer.

Try removing the air filter. The engine can run without one, but it's not a good idea to do it for too long. If it doesn't help just put it back, but if it solves the problem you only have to spend a small amount on a new one. Don't bother trying to clean the old one, it may seem ok for a few of days but you will very soon be back at the same position.

Don't Hondas have "interference heads", i.e. if the timing belt breaks/jumps you get valve to piston contact?

It's very difficult to guess about probable causes over the internet.
If I were there I could eliminate a lot of stuff right away....
