View Full Version : Post Count

I know this has been discussed before, but I cannot find the topic in searches.

Simple Poll Request.

Shall post count be removed?

http://www.mcbriens.net/liam/img/smilies/yes.gif Yes

http://www.mcbriens.net/liam/img/smilies/no.gif No

I think it should be, as it does set a goal for some people to post as much as possible to reach a certain number of posts.

Edit: Thank you for the poll :)

Remove for sure! Post count Increases unnecessary childish posts for sure. Unnecessary answers like "Yes" and saying in the same thing when its been said in the same topic might reduce. More quality than quantity.

Get rid of post count!

You can still be called a spammer or spam without the post count mate.It may even be better for "you".But there wont be any shit about getting to xxx many posts,or crap, like posts with just "umm de de de"just to get a high count. They can brag about.Imo.this way only the say true spammers with a bit of meaning to the words will stand out, mate.PPL who just post one or two word nonsence and brag about there count for attention will eventually be ignored, without anything constructive or"enjoyable" to say.Anyway mate I think the average day posts are never even thought about by regulars, ppl know who you are with o or xxx many posts. You get your respect or standing in the community from what you have to say, even if its "i'm off to take a shit,i'll be back in ten mins" :P

I don't want them removed, because it's an easy gauge of how much a member posts here. For example, we know that someone with 0 posts is either a n00b or a lounge lizard.

Sounds good to me, takes away the unnecessary stress of finding 'witty' things to post for your memorable milestones. I couldn't care less either way about my post count, and I think a lot of member's feel the same.

It's not the post count that counts, it's the post that counts.

If the post count is removed then we'll never see an end to the new threads started saying "How come there is no post count?"

So, I say keep them.

It's not the post count that counts, it's the post that counts.
Now that's a great point.

Ah, Virtualbody1234, and you would not have a reason to think of a new name when you reach the 1000 count!

Maybe the answer is, everyone who posts 100 times gets 5 stars.

Its just a matter of fact. Those members with very high no. of posts would say post counts shouldn't be removed and the noobs would say it should be. Though I don't have a high no. of post, I think post counts should not be removed.

Moreover, I don't know any other forum where post isn't counted. I'm sorry to say that this doesn't seem to be a good idea to me...

Sparkle1984

I say save the post counts !! :D I find it fun to know how many posts a person has. And if we just put the post count on people's profiles, it would take longer to see it. So I think it should be left as it is, because it's easier to see the post count when it's on everyone's message.

Hey! I resemble that comment!!!

I voted yes, but only because I see so many discussions on the subject - but either way I don't think it would really make a difference. If we remove them, then there will be a discussion as to why they should be put back.

I do like the suggestion that maybe they be removed from thread view and just kept in the profiles - we still have the post count but it's not so easily apparent who the post whores.... I mean spammers... I mean really helpful people are. :P

That was a joke btw - before anyone gets mad at me... <_<

 no offense or anything at you its just everything. Its not just people with large amounts of post who "spam" look at the top 10 posters how ofter is there a member with under 200 posts who has made 70+ posts in a day but that person does not get called a post whore just the people with 3000+. dont just blame spam on people with 3000+ posts this kind of stuff is bull. I think the system works right now, perfectly as it is. Post count in general should not just be removed.

It's nice how the ability to gain a higher post count is disabled in sections like the Lounge. FastTrack Central uses a similar system, for boards like the testing section. That way people can still feel proud about having their member rank, but not get over-obsessed with having a high post count, and spamming to increase it.

Yup. He's right. I don't care about post counts. I just recently started over at 0. No big deal. Nobody1234, Somebody1234 and now Virtualbody1234.

so why was this moved? it is still constructive discussion regarding this forum. just because it has been decided that for now it is best to leave it how it is, why should this discussion be given to the mobs of the lounge?

if someone comes along later and decides to raise the subject, they ay indeed use the search function of this board. they would, undoubtably search "about our website" and get no results. why not just leave it be, and allow it to gracefully drop off the bottom of the screen?

What about keep the stars lose the post counts, that way you have some indication (albeit not much) of how much a member posts, which i think is sometimes useful information.
Or keep the post counts and lose the stars (I dunno how you would make it clear who is a mod tho) i think maybe without the stars people would be less bothered about reaching any milestones?

Never remove a post count from a person or a forum. It just make the whole thing seem boring. It may bring on competition to see who gets the mosts posts. Even though it's useless, it's fun having it around and seeing how many times we've posted on the forum.

Never remove a post count from a person or a forum. It just make the whole thing seem boring. It may bring on competition to see who gets the mosts posts. Even though it's useless, it's fun having it around and seeing how many times we've posted on the forum.

:D
its does not matter how many times you post its what you post

i know a few people here that just look at your #of post and assume whats in it, so ya you would still be called a spammer, but do we get post counts for the verified and requests??

but its moved because its over i guess

I wouldnt mind getting rid of post count in "The Worlds"
I think I posted like maybe 25 times actually helping somebody, rest is just chit chat, useless replies, quizez etc.... ;)

*edit: I meant "worlds" discussions only, verifieds is another story...

yes that is actully a great idea and it was once like that worlds didn't count for posts but then too many ppl complained about that and then they counted them

sorry for that shockingn miss typing with that last post even by my standard that was pathetic

Let me rant here
It's not big deal but I've noticed in my short time here that:

1. Members that say they don't care about post cuont surprisingly wnat to keep it. If it was gone wuold you still be the post wohre that some of you are?(hint hnit)
2. Members do feel "special" when reaching 1000 posts. I'm close to 1000 and voted to get rid of it by the way.
3. N00bs, kids, and immature asses spam the hell out the board for post count sake. (and post whores)
4. Getting rid of post count will spur more meaningful responses.
5. Your member no. and the year you joined should be enough. (hell even get rid of the stars)

LAST BUT NOT LEAST

6. We don't need post count to know who a n00b is. You can tell by the questions they ask, they way they ask it, and the overall quality of their posts. I've noticed many n00bs that have over a thousand posts but you call them senior members or some other crap. <_<

YOU ARE NOT YOUR FUCKING POST COUNT!!!!

Because it's a lounge topic. Wasn't this in Musicworld? Wtf does this have to do with music? If anything it belonged in About our website and this forum. RIGHT?

You are right my man!!! I stand corrected. Maybe it was moved so people couldn't up their post count on a topic about post count because it's the posts that people post that count right now?!

I would assume it was moved for the mere purpose of more response in the lounge <_<
I don’t see any other reason it would be moved, hopefully not abuse of mod powers <_<

I voted to get rid of it. Lately I've been seeing more and more new users who only joined a few weeks ago but have post counts over 1000. Now how useful do you think most of those posts were? Most newbies seem to be under the impression that a higher post count will make their posts seem more relevant, and that's just not true. Knowing how many posts a person has made means absolutely nothing, and I see no reason to continue displaying it.

Well, if it ends up that the post count is eliminated, I just hope the Awards for Post Counts are given out first.....there are rewards for posts, aren't there? Surely there must be, the way some members have bitched and moaned about too many posts by some members....really, if you tell me there are no awards for Post Counts, I'm going to be really disappointed, as will many others, I'm sure. Especially you cry babies (you know who you are) who are the loudest at bitching about the post counts climbing too fast for a few members in particular.

I would hate to see the post count eliminated, as we would then be unable to get under the skin of the members of the 'cry baby club' by posting so often.

Seriously, don't get rid of the post count, as it does provide a type of measuring stick when reading through the vast number of replies here in the forum.

One last thing - there really are going to be some sort of awards handed out for the post counts, right?

Stop displaying post count when you get over 1000 (just show 1000+).

thewizeard

Maybe the post counts should be removed when posting in all the different "worlds"
and only counted when posting verifieds or other directly Kazaa-lite related topics.

To be honest I don't really care if they stay or go.
