A few precisions / updates:

categories were changed:

http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/1589/tbcat.png

- You don't have a separate login to the forums (unlike e.g. torrentleech).
- There is no official bannable ratio limit (the rules state that they don't want to make the limit public and "members are encouraged to try and obtain a 1 ratio").
- used to be relatively hard to obtain a good ratio, but there now are some free leech periods / free leech torrents (for christmas, sometimes if donations targets are reached early) which make things a little easier
- no ads, donations accepted
- No pay2leech (e.g. no "material" reward for donating)
- Weekly lottery to win free leech GBs, any user can win

Content: It has lots of recent releases of all kinds of electronic music, a good choice of TV and movies, including HD stuff. I like that it has lots of different content, including XXX :D (the XXX HD /Web / IMG cats have only a few torrents though)

Downloads are almost always very fast.

Wow this tracker is good , do they have invites?

No invite system available. Open signups permanently, but only when someone gets the boot, another gets in.

So take good care of your account, because waiting for slots to be freed and going through their registration process can be exasperating.

I remember... it was over 3 years ago and I still feel the pain. Took me 20 minutes to register

# of members: 45567
# of seeders: 87,486
# of leechers: 7,342
# of torrents: 8431, 6305 alive

pretime: 6 (few under a min, many over ten minutes, some at the hour+ mark)
content: 8 (they get most of scene and have a large number of packs)
speed: 9 (speeds are good)
overall: 8

Invites: Like said in prev posts: always open, an annoying signup process, no user invites and keep checking for pruned users.

Free leech: FL on around 1400 packs, lots of leechers, easy to keep a good ratio.

Notes: A solid site to have. Operates a TTL (time to live) of 42 days, roughly 100 new torrents a day. No TTL on packs.

At the moment it seems like the site will cease to exist sometime in early August due to no practical way of funding this fun. The past 7 months the site has been kept up by a few very generous people combined with some good old-fashioned stubbornes. The site is unlikely to come back as is.

Bubue.

I'll mark them as dead in the WTO if they don't make it.

2013 doesn't seem to be a good year for private trackers

That's too bad. I really liked the site, and was a member since it went by the original name. Oddly, found I couldn't log in this past week. Maybe they trimmed some unused accounts, or someone got a bur in their side.

Regardless, it was my online "home" for over 5 years and my first taste of private trackers.

Best of luck and wishes to all who made the site thrive for so long!

The (more or less) 'official' successor to Torrentbits, the first private bittorrent tracker that got everything rolling in 2004. At first, I was pretty enthusiastic after the loss of Torrentbits, hoping that the great community (no cliché for once, the Torrentbits community really was something else) could be preserved and things could continue like they had. But to be perfectly honest, Torrentbytes never lived up to the original Torrentbits. Stability sucked, the community wasn't the same and the sheer size of the site couldn't be compared either (AFAIR, Torrentbits had 100,000 users). Once the tracker went down and all user data was lost (and the admins being rather indifferent about it), I left and never looked back.

Still, always sad to see a tracker go down. So R.I.P. Torrentbytes.

Many people from TB went to TorrentShack, they opened their registration because of it.

R.I.P. TorrentBytes :(
