Hello All,

I need you assistance. :)

I'm currently writing a music report for my studies and part of my topic is based around file sharing.

So I was wondering if you could support me and answer a few questions for me.

I would like to know why you use this facility??...... what is stopping you from buying the music from the shops??

how much do you roughly download per month??

do u know the legal issues behind file sharing? and if so do you care??

do you think your downloads are affecting the music industries profits??

what are the main networks you use to do this?

what genre of music do you listen to?

if you have any other points you think will help me please feel to state those as well.

I will be very grateful if you can help me with this.

p.s this is just for my uni work and the information will not be used for any other purposes.

also if you could leave your age/sex that would help me collate some figures for my research

Thank you

Lexy1

I believe it is an attempt to undermine the already thin moral ground we stand on to justify our actions.

Or maybe I'm thinking too hard.

To answer your questions ( more or less)
I stopped buying music at shops because the technology has advanced beyond it.Take your CDplayer out for a jog and witness the embarrassment.

I don't really download much music .

Filesharing , or as I prefer to call it " a bunch of dimwits punctuated by the occasional non-troglodyte " at present is legal in Canada.

I'm sure that the music industry will still have enough money to pay for their drugs excesses regardless .Really as I understand it lesser known artists benefit , big names make their money on concerts not albums anyway so the only ones effected are the suits so meh.

I don't understand the word network in the context you are using it.

I listen to music I don't make a conscious decision on what I like/listen to based on genre.Anyway who can keep track of all the anal subdividing.

The person in the link .Same IP ,same topic ,accounts created within a couple days of each other.
Circumstantial evidence sure but as circumstantial evidence goes as 'bout as conclusive as possible.

While I get this is of no use already after reading Idol's last post, I'll reply anyway. :idunno:

Downloading is faster and cheaper. You can get a full album in a few minutes at almost no cost.

how much do you roughly download per month??

It depends, but I think a rough average would be 10GB.

do u know the legal issues behind file sharing? and if so do you care??

My country doesn't care about filesharing so I guess I don't have to, either.

do you think your downloads are affecting the music industries profits??

Not really. They have enough money already.

what are the main networks you use to do this?

Assuming with "networks" you are referring to ways of downloading, I mostly use BitTorrent, with a bit of direct downloads and Ares when it's a single track I want.

what genre of music do you listen to?

I listen to a wide range of music. Here's an screenshot of some of the music torrents loaded in the uTorrent instance I use for What.cd (a very popular music tracker), if you're interested:
