Hey guys,

My uncle is lookin to download some music for his new ipod. He is a a little bit of a pc tard so I set him up with limewire and itunes and said "seach here, download, drag in here". However limewire is a lot shitter now than it was when I used to use it (not much coming up for searches ect.) so I was wondering if anyone could reccomend me the best "noob" solution. I use waffles but there's no way he'd work torrents and manage his ratio ect.

Basically if someone you know asked you how to download music and you knew they weren't the best with computers what would you reccomend for them?

Advanced Thanks.

Nick.

Ares. If you don't know too much about filesharing programs it's a matter of installing it, waiting for it to connect, and typing what you want in the search box.

Emule,very easy to use.

Not for a noob, you need to play around with the settings a big

And let's not forget queues... they aren't as big for single tracks, but you won't get downloads going right after you add them as it's the case with Ares.

soulseek has an incredible amount of content and you just have to type whatever you need in the search and double-click to dl.

Rapidshare is also popular, but free users don't really have a chance to download nowadays... :closedeye

google ftw lol...

http://www.g2p.org/res/index.html
or
http://www.jimmyr.com/mp3_search.php

OR else in google:

DVDRip "rapidshare.com/files"|"megaupload.com/?d"|"badongo.com/file/"|"yastorage.com/"|"massmiror.com/"|"d01.megashares.com/?d01="|"mediafire.com/?"|"files.filefront.com"|"sendspace.com/file/"|"rapidshare.de/files"|"zshare.net/download"|"adrive.com/public/"

replace dvdrip with whatever you want and also you can change any hoster after that...

Indexing, which they have all mentioned. Many .mp3's are just indexed on peoples servers, you can find those strings to type in anywhere online.

It's an indexer, and indeed a good one. I used it a lot when I was banned from What.cd.

An alternate client? What's so good about it?

I found a torrent for it at TPB and will check it out. Always happy to try new software - inside a sandbox, of course. ;)

Soulseek is a good bet though I might think bittorrent isn't that much harder to explain, and the advantige is that you can refer him to new sites in the future. I learned my mom this, and if she can learn it everyone can.

No matter what you do remember to forward his ports. Especially if you choose soulseek, or else it sucks.

rutracker.org is great. It is a Russian torrent site so you will have to use translate.google.com till you get used to it.

The nice thing is bunch of what.cd people have accounts there. They will download flac rips from what.cd and post them over there.

It is open to sign up on the first of every month but you have to remember the time is in MOSCOW time. So you have to google around and find out the exact times it is open. And remember when it's open the times are in Moscow time

lol@ "you can use google translate on this russian site!" ,and did you notice they said soulseek is great "if you don't care about quality" and "IF you don't ?4wrd ur ports? it'll suck"

I'd just rev up FrostWire myself - gnutella ftw! lol!

I think frostwire is still around :)

anon

Still around, maybe. I wouldn't recommend anything that runs on the Gnutella network, however - it has become a cesspool for viruses, fakes and scams. Use Ares, Soulseek, Groovedown or The Pirate App for single tracks.

What about DDL sites? I don't use them often but they should be easy to learn. Just run a search, download from rapidshare or hotfile (choose the free & slow download), unzip and there you go.

You could try PhazeDDL.com.
