Along the same lines, I hated Radiohead - Pablo Honey initally. I bought it and didn't listen to it for a year. Then I dusted it off and really liked it. Now Radiohead is one of my favorite bands.

Metalica - St. Anger was mine. The first time that I listened to the album I thought that it was just crap. Then I listened to the album from start to finish a couple of times and it really grew on me. I guess that it was the shock of the overall sound of the album that got me. Although the drums still sound like trash cans I have grown to like the stripped down and dirty Metallica. It is something completely different than they had ever done and I quite like it.

I didn't really like Marilyn Mansons album Mechanical Animals. It grew on me though and I love it for what it is today.
I also couldn't stand how bleak Peter Gabriels UP album is. But now I listen to it whenever I want to be happy.
