On every forum you always hear heated discussion about what the best anti virus is, but lets switch it up a bit...

Whats the best portable antivirus to date. I do alot of tech work... and to carry around a portable antivirus would be great.
Right now to fix viruses I install zone alarm extreme security and have to reboot and all, to make a long story short I'm looking for something more convenient.

Free or pirated you name it.

My choice goes to NOD32. Googling "portable nod32 2.7" plus the current month and year should be enough to find one.

Didn't know they had portable versions of that. I'm a large nod32 fan, I'll check it out.

They aren't official ;) But work very well. I always keep a fresh copy in my flashdrive for when a friend or relative is having virus issues.

It would be great if it could update itself lol.

Lol I knew it was unoffical just didn't know they cracked it for portable use.

As far as I know that's not possible, you'll have to grab the latest portable every month. They include the latest virus definitions at the time of their release.

I couldn't find the specific release you were speaking of, but I managed to obtain some one on warez-bb.

Ill tell you how it works because my parents are claiming to have over 600 viruses on their machine lol.

*insert some joke about porn Web sites here*

I know a blog that provides monthly NOD32 portable editions, but they use the Spanish version of the program, so it'll most likely be useless to you.

¿Qué te hace pensar que no puedo entender el español

for portability I use Dr.Web CureIT no need to update because the definitions are in the program, when there is an update you download a new version

Most if not all portable antivirus programs don't have real-time scanning, though.

If I need a one time scan, I just use an online scanner. Eset or f-secure.

Seen as you asked specifically for a portable AV to cure other peoples PC of nasties, You could try a very powerfull free commanline AV called a2cmd, I've tried and tested it for nearly a year with great results, you can have it just check and NOT remove the nasties so you can look at the log and show your family or customers the viruses/trojans thats on the PC, or you can have it encrypt and quarantine the nasties, Its up to you. http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/cmd/ If you want to use it without having to type the cammands in,you can run a script with all the cammands in to make it easy for you,1 script for quarantine 1 script for scanning and logging etc or you can mix and match to suit the situation like a quick scan or a indepth scan that can take many hrs

Quote from that link:

For system administrators, security experts, and experienced commandline users. Check your system for malware infection with the Commandline Scanner. It includes all functions of the Anti-Malware scanner and both the top scan engines (Emsisoft Anti-Malware and Ikarus Antivirus).

I didn't even know those two engines existed. Nice find.

you can get the latest eset smart security 4.0 portable, even updates and take it where you want, also i have a disc with 7 major anti virus programs for scanning. spybot would be the most efective and for that to be portable just copy the program files to a thumb drive and go, works great !
