View Full Version : Q9650+Windows 7 64 bit = 2 cores in Device Manager?

Just installed a new Q9650, and Windows is showing 2 cores in the device manager.
Just flashed the BIOS on my EVGA nForce 780i SLI FTW (What a crap name on a board :P) but still no go.
Reinstalled OS too but it's still showing 2 cores.

On my server I got a Q6600 and it shows up as 4 cores in Windows 7 so I guess this CPU should be the same..

Fixed it. Forgot to clear cmos :P

ya the reason is that windows xp is built for a dual core sys. and not for Q4 and above.

Bollocks! XP is fully SMP scalable (Symetrical Multi Processing). Why are there professional video editors running dual quad Xeon processors for Avid editing or 3D design work on Windows XP otherwise ?

the performance wont be that good in a Q4 w win xp. it wont use all the cores.

Who lied to you bud? XP will support up to 2 processors not 2 cores. You can use 2 quad core CPUs on say a skultrail mobo or something.
