What is your purpose for that 2nd HDD. Just storage? A clone? To boot from? Will the purpose of your fixed HDD be changing?

hey, sup. u havn't been around for some time. anyways, it's for movies and stuff. i take it out when i'm dling something, and i put it in when i need it. so stupid shitheads won't find my shit. i'll still upload, but this is just for like old movies and shit and archives of stuff. and it makes my storage to 150 gb. not bad. or maybe for porn. lol

You should have no problems, just boot from the XP cd and choose where you want to install, you'll get a choice of which HDD to boot from.

ah, that's wat i was trying to confirm. now, will the 5400 rpm hd affect my system at all?

and would i be able to move and use stuff back and forth between the 2 drives? sorta like 2 partitions rite? but will both show up in my computer? how do i configure it to do this? (to be able to access both hds using 1 os)

and btw, my hd now is 26-28 deg C. is that 2 hot?

So just for storage. OK no sweat just make sure not to load an actve OS on it then. Set the jumper to slave & always use the middle connector on your IDE cable. Your system might be a little slower & more draw from the PSU. AFAIK that's it. Oh you might (but I doubt it) have to switch around IDE devices if your present configuration won't work after adding this HDD. Easy to do. :)

Your rack should plug into your IDE cable, as a normal second drive would, the computer will just see it as a slave. If you are going to use it for storage only, you don't need to install xp on it, just format it from within XP. The speed of the drive won't affect the system, it will just be a little slower than your other HDD.

As to the temp of your drives, I have no idea.

AFAIK? huh?wt do u mean by don't load a os?... middle connector... oh, but my fixed is under the hd rack, which is in the 5.25' bay. so how do i do the middle ide connector thing? and do i have to do anything special when installing xp so that both hds are accessable in one os?

awsome! so i stick it in, and then format by rite click and format?
and how would the ide cable thing work if the slave is above the master? i'm confused. should i just turn the cable upside down? hmm... that might work. is that wat i have to do? i used to have 3 hds in 1 comp, but that was a very long time ago, and i havn't built many comps since then, so i'm forgetting a lot of stuff

Is your rack already installed? If not, you connect it to the spare plug on your ide cable, and plug the power in. Don't worry about which plug you use on the cable, it will work either way. Set your 30mb HDD to "slave", Windows will find it. To format, you log on to another drive, (c, for instance) then right click on the 30 and choose format.

AFAIK? As far as I know, it stands for something!

but how will my ide cable reach that far up? if i have to turn the cable up side down, it won't plug in... so do i have to plug the ide connector that says master into the rack, and slave connector into my fixed, which is master? i'm so confused. cuz the cable won't twist and have the middle one reach higher to the 5.25' bays while the top connector is all the way at the bottom

another question. i have 4 5.25' bays. 3 are taken up by a cdrw, dvd rom, and temp display thingy. so if i stick the hd in between all that, will it get hot? my rack does have a fan, but will it still get hot? i don't want it to get hot.
oh, yea, also, how does my speedfan program tell the temp of my hd anway? cuz i don't think there are any temp sensors on hds. are there?

yea, i have a software, but where do the sensor thing go? i didn't know hds had temp sensors

anyway, how would i work the ide cables? should i plug the master connector to the rack, and slave connector to the fixed (master)? or how should i do it?

Top plug to master. Middle to slave.

rite, but the thing is, the 5.25' rack is above the master hd, which is fixed under the 5.25' bays... i hope i'm getting this across. so how do i connect the top ide to master and middle to slave and still be able to reach the mobo connector, which is at the bottom

Move things around in your tower & or get longer cables. I just ordered a 24" rounded cable.

It doesn't matter which plug you put it on, whichever way reaches. It will work either way round.

WAHOO! IT BLOODY WORKED!!!! only thing though, when i connect the master connector to the slave drive, the system didn't start up. so i had to fiddle with my not rounded ide cable, which is a real pain, and twist them to fit. not it works. WAHOOOOOOOO!!!! i'm so happy B) B) :D :D B) B) :D  :beerchug: :beerchug: :santa: :sorcerer: :zorro: :w00t: :w00t:
