Hi there,

This is my first post, so hello everyone! I was trying to find some information regarding private web browsing through a VPN service. I saw that Giganews is offering a private VPN (although a bit expensive) and thought that sounded like a good idea. I really don't care for my ISP to know that I browse these sites, and would much prefer they didn't.

Does anyone here do this? Or something like it? Please provide your input and ideas, as well as services that could be used.

I tried to use the search, so don't kill me if there's some post with this already. I couldn't find it.

I know about Tor, and have tried using it, but in my experience it makes browsing way too slow. I don't want to feel like I'm back in the 90's, but still want to keep this information out of my ISP's hands.

Thanks so much!

Just use tor to browse online, unless your doing something really illegal...

Then get a vpn (THAT CLEARS LOGS!)

*Also by the way this site is legal.

Best value for money: https://www.anonine.com/en/start

1 month = 40 SEK (5.62012 U.S. dollars)
1 year = 400 SEK.

Didn't slow down my 10Mb connection at all.

Purely as a search tool i've been testing out 2,hotspot shield and ultra vpn, they both do the job for me,they both give me a new IP and they have been both reliable and quick, but I've only been testing them for a month. Also make sure you sign up for opendns, then you won't be using your isp dns server to search. All of the above are easy to setup and are all very reliable and best of all are free and Legal. http://hotspotshield.com/ https://www.ultravpn.fr/ http://www.opendns.com/

And they also NAT you as well as giving you an IP that's banned in a lot of trackers.

If you want a good VPN service, you'll have to pay.

If you just want to hide low volume traffic from your ISP, then a simple SSL web proxy (http://proxy.org/proxies_sorted.shtml) and openDNS (http://www.opendns.com/) will do.

eta: obviously make sure you prefix any address from the ssl web proxy list with https.

True. As of now I don't know good free VPN services.
Try out Ipredator - it's not expensive and it's very good.

I thought n00b was after a simple web browsing answer, If n00b was, my way would be more than suitable, secure web browsing and opendns to sort the dns side out would do the job great. The NAT issue won't come into it as n00b just wants secure web browsing with the isp not being able see n00b's tracks.

OK then. I'd prefer UltraVPN from the two you mentioned, it's newer and faster.

I'm still just testing them both, both have pro's and cons but both are reliable as well which is good.

xB Browser is a good alternative to the usual proxy search. It's an internet browser much like Netscape, except whenever you connect to a website its through one of their proxies.

You can use hotspot shield VPN for free.

HSS is well-known by now - I remember using it in early 2007. UltraVPN appeared last year, so less trackers/sites have banned its IP.
