I have some obscure fascination with vampire films - anyone got a suggestion for a film for me to download. Ive seen Interview with the Vampire, Blade 1&2, Dracula 2001. Any other good ones? Im sure there must be.

The Last Man On Earth (1964) (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0058700/) -- the OPAVZM. the original post apocalyptic vampire/zombie movie. vincent price makes tea, listens to music, collects garlic, goes out in the daytime to find vampire hideouts and stake them while they sleep, and tries ignore his old friend (now a zompire) who swings by every night to bang on his door & talk a lot of smack. omega man, dawn of the dead, and 28 days later should all be counted as remakes of the last man on earth.

The Night Stalker (1972) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0067490/) -- darren mcgavin, as streetwise reporter carl kolchak, investigates a series of murders in las vegas. and of course, it turns out to be the work of a vampire. a great movie that launched a tv series in which kolchak had the ridiculous luck of getting tangled up with a new monster every week. the x-files ripped this off in a huge way.

Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht (1979) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0079641/) -- kinda slow, but that's the point. werner herzog's films tend to be slow and hypnotic. great music by popol vuh, and klaus kinski is one of the most bizarre & fascinating actors ever to grace the movie screen.

Lifeforce (1985) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0089489/) -- this one got a really bad rap, which i don't think it deserves. sure it's goofy, sure the script seems ripped straight out of a 1960s drive-in quickie, sure the vampire is a naked girl, but it's pretty entertaining anyway. tobe hooper made this around the same time as his underrated remake of invaders from mars, if that's any indication of where it fits into the bigger picture.

Vampire's Kiss (1989) (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0098577/) -- it's not a genuine vampire movie, but about the descent into madness of a guy who thinks he's a vampire. nicolas cage is hysterical in the lead role. it was generally misunderstood by viewers and critics, but i think it's a brilliant movie. people thought it was supposed to be a horror-comedy, so they wanted it to be like attack of the killer tomatoes, rocky horror, or some hipper-than-thou tim burton thing... and this movie just refuses to be any of those things. it refuses to pander.

and the "major" dracula movies are all essential viewing--
Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0013442/)
Dracula (1931) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0021814/)
Dracula's Daughter (1936) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0027545/)
Horror Of Dracula (1958) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0051554/)
Dracula Has Risen From The Grave (1968) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0062909/)
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0103874/)
you can skip the frank langella one from 1979.
