Static Ip

I'm allocated an adsl account with my ISP which allows static IPs.
I use a Dlink DSL 504 router/adsl modem which assigns me an IP.

I was wondering whether I can change my IP address since my adsl router is assigning me the IP and not my ISP, but since I'm only allowed a 'static' IP I was wondering I could change my IP at all.

You are allocated a static internet IP by your ISP; this IP is for your router.

Your router assigns your computer a static local IP which only applies to the local network (ie. your router and any computers linked to it).

It is possible, but pointless, to change your computer's local IP.




The way it works:
Your computer sends a request to the router's local IP for some kind of internet activity, such as browsing a webpage or transferring a file.
The IPs used here are local (your computer's local IP and the router's local IP).
The router then sends this request to the internet via your ISP.
The router uses its internet IP for this action.
Your ISP then returns the requested information to your router's internet IP.
The router sends the information to your computer's local IP from the router's local IP - again, all the IPs used here are local

it's like an apartment building.

the street address is like your internet ip address.

each apartment# is like the ip address of each PC on your network.

a person must know the street address before finding the apartment#.

I got banned from this forum because I did not reach enough post counts during a certain period of time. I get most of my download links from there and it's a big loss that I can't access that site anymore.

Is there anyway I can change my IP address so I can go back to that forum again?
I heard about using some smac tool like keikan said but I'm not sure whether it changes the ip I'm allocated by my ISP since I only have static IP.

and, I heard by using a good firewall, you can successfully hide your IP. But I thought that was a teeny too troublesome, any easy way out to changing static IPs??

I tried the SMAC 1.1 tool.

BUt problem is when I open the program, under IP address, I see my local IP 192.168.0.2 and not 2xx.xxx.xxx.xxx which is my actual IP. Does that mean the MAC tool will not work for me??

I'm using a DSL 504, adsl modem and 4port router 2in1.

Just use a proxy. A proxy acts as a go-between. You ask the proxy for stuff, it asks the website for it, the website sends it back to the proxy, and ther proxy gives it to you.

I think after looking through some posts at another forum I'm convinced that I won't be able to change my static IP. :(

And this proxy thing, how do I set it up, I will try a search.

Only browsing is slightly slower, but I can access the forum now, hmm that bastard of a administrator even banned my entire account from the downloads section, looks like I;ve got to get another acc..

I got a new account but I can't seem to see some sections of the forum.
I remember having such a problem before but I can't recall how I fixed it.

NOw it seems as though I can't see the forum at all :(

You might have to make a certain amount of posts first.

BTW, as this is now a software question (proxy/forum questions are software related), I'll have to shift it, just to keep things tidy.

I&#39;m such a newb.

Imagine posting 40 topics/replies on a very slow proxy in-between...
I think i&#39;ll post one in general asking the admin to unban my IP altogether.
