Yes, I like floppies and I'm scared without one.
Yes, but only because other people who use my system can't live without them.
No, I'll use one of those USB mini-storage devices.
No, floppies suck.

Never know when you will need, and how much do they cost now? 10 bucks. Actually I think that I have 5 or 6 in my closet.

This is the closest I could find that matched my view, its more a compatability since I use a lot of other pc's where they cant read cdrw's and i dont want to waste a cdr or the file im saving isnt too big.
Not all OS's or Mobo's support CD booting and for somethings with XP and 2K can ONLY be solved with a win 98 boot disc.
=)
Btw make this an official poll

Yes, but only because other people who use my system can't live without them.
My wife still has a few devices that use them and I still put small programs and $pecial note$ on them for friends as well.

I'll probably put one in, even though I never use the damn thing...
unless I have somthing else that needs the real estate in the case.

Most likely because the school's comps don't have cd drives

yeh i will prob always have a floppy, i use a few programs for diagnosing and low level formatting hard drives that run from floppys, also i use various windows boot discs to boot dodgy drives out of pc's i workin on that ive put in mine to sort out. you could put a smartcard reader in place of a floppy drive if you got a gaping hole! ;)

...and I find Floppies handy when you just need mobile storage for small text or zip files.

Mine busted a while back; went nearly 6 months without replacing it, had a few problems though (most of my drivers are on disc) and eventually gave in a bought a new one.
I think the ease RW on floppies but is pretty hard to do without sometimes has any got a jazz disc in their system - how did it work? Are they a viable alternative???

Hell yeah!
I need the damn thing. A few days ago i had to update my BIOS.
It needed a bootdisk to be created to update it.
A bootdisk for any reason (a clean virus check etc.)
But anyways.., a pc would look stupid without one! <_<
And one would be stupid for not installing 1!
I'll still keep one for a while yet, as others have said it's useful for transferring small files to friends, and creating specialist boot disks. But I think I'll start creating a multi-option bootable cdrw for that sort of thing pretty soon.
It's a shame the LS-120 drives didn't take off, since they could use ordinary floppy disks as well as the higher capacity 120MB disks. I feel sure that if they had got off the ground when they first came out (about 8 years ago?) we would now have versions with capacities will into the gigabytes. Instead there are ZIP drives which have a special size which no-one else makes disks for, and consequently are relatively expensive.

My next system will not have a floppy. I can't remember the last time I used it on my current ones.
yea... i still buy it even tho its like 9 bucks :(
better then opening up nero and then clicking all those stuff to burn into a cdrw... after the burn is complete it takes like 1min before the cd is done... good for transfering word files or stuff between computers, even tho a USB pen is pretty good these days too

Floppy drives suck...they are slow, noisy, and dont do much. But with all the formatting, and diagnostics that I've had to be doing on this machine lately, it's earned it's worth.
Yeah, too bad about those LS-120's. I had one, and I liked it, up until the disks degraded over time, and wouldnt hold a FAT anymore. BTW, mine wasnt too great at reading regular floppy disks.
